Would be my guess too. That’s how it was called. There were a lot of angry spectators who disagreed.
I wouldn’t think the runner at first would be compelled to leave the base until the batter got there.
Kids baseball is a hoot. Headed to 6U practice in a bit. One kid on the team is a riot. Refuses to throw the ball. He gets ahold of it and tries to run down and tag every kid on the field.😂

LL is fun aint it? I had the honors of coaching allstars last year, that was a whole 'nother set of rules. I'll never do it again. Parents take the fun right out of it.

I got one for ya. High school softball district tournament last night.
Runner on first. One out. Line drive hit to first base. She drops the ball. Runner on first doesn’t move. She picks it up and steps on first, then tags the runner who’s still on first.
Who’s out?
Sounds like that play was called correctly. Batter is out once the base is touched so the force is no longer in effect. The runner can safely stay on the base. If the fielder had instead tagged the runner first, then touched the base, then both would have been out.
