Heading to saskatchewan this sat for a bear hunt with my buddy and 4 boys age 13-17. Outfitter asked me to bring side chew for his dad. Any clue how much I’m allowed. A case is 6 pouches so 18 oz total. From what I read I see only 7 ounces is allowed then in another area I read 1 unit is 7 ounces but are allowed 5 units. Little confused. Tried calling the border crossing office and was on hold forever. Figure can’t hurt to ask here.

If you pose the question to the Canadian officials the same as you did here, the answer will be none.

Roy,
I've declared a roll (5-pack) of Skoal each time I've entered Canada - no worries.

Ok that is what I’m trying to figure out. So if the packs of side chew are 3 oz bags then I could use 2 as personal and the other 4 since unstamped I’d have to pay the special duty rate. Atleast that is what I’m assuming. Wander what that rate would be….. Roy

Is side chew something like Red Man? Well, what used to be called Red Man anyway. I don't want to give the impression I'm speaking from personal experience on this subject as it's been 30 years since I ventured across the border. Just regurgitating what I'm finding on the Internet. Duty rates link.

Split it up, you declare 3 packs, your buddy 3 packs, and even a couple of the boys can declare. I used to do this when I was going to the SCI show with 4 or 5 passengers,..... no questions were asked.

Listen to the questions closely then declare exactly what you have—pay the duty as it won’t be much. I have a buddy who brings 5 cases of beer every trip—sometimes they don’t ask but when they do he declares and even then they don’t always charge the duty. They are govt employees and they don’t like paperwork anymore than the next guy. If paying duty on the beer the price is still cheaper than what the LCBO charges here. Same with tobacco products.
