That's a tough one.

Hope you are not to that point yet.

I have been around enough of it that I can personally say that currently I would not consider it.

A permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Yep. I didn't casually just throw that word in there.

I have been really down before. No doubt will again.

It's a cycle for sure.

For me....it's my kids and family. Balancing work and family time.

Getting stuff accomplished or checked off the list. Moving forward....providing.

Three reasons not to:

1. Suicide is our way of saying I want to quit - now. Everything. When I look back on things I wanted to quit and didn't, it makes me think of all the things I would have missed out on later if I had.
2. We are made in God's image. This makes all human life precious. Even our own.
3. When someone commits suicide, it begins to normalize that behavior for some of those around them, and may cause others that had never considered it an option to consider it. Kids, grandkids, siblings, neighbors, etc. are influenced by this decision in a way many of us never consider.

My dad developed dementia a in 2020, and went from being a strong man that everyone depended on to someone that needed constant care. I had often said I'd rather die that go through that or put anyone else through it. But, now I see that even in his diminished state, he gave each of us a chance to serve him, and offered purpose and encouragement to his caregivers. I still don't want to go out that way, but I can't look back at the last couple of years we had with my dad and say I wish we hadn't had that time with him.

It is definitely a permanent solution. Not all problems are temporary.

Yeah....but it can be a hell of a problem.

Heard one fellow that got help at just the right time describe his depression like being burned alive all day and night long.

My wife had a dear family friend take his own life in New Zealand.

By all accounts...the man had it made.

Wealth, loving family, grandchildren....so on.

He had been struggling for years though.

I decided right then and there to never again judge or downplay what a person might be going through.

For him to have all that...and still off himself? Fùck oh dear.....what he was going through must have been truly terrible.

I can't imagine.

We are losing far too many to suicide.

I am trying to get a Peer Support group started for our Fire Department.

Used to be when you were struggling in the FD...they would get a bunch of strangers together to talk to you.

CISD.

Now...it looks like just talking to a peer you can trust does much more good for people.

Who knew eh?

Every man, woman and child will experience physical aliments or illness in the course of their life.

Suicide is a mental aliment or illness that may or may not accompany a physical aliment or illness.

A man I respect once told me that "Contemplating Suicide" was the pressure relief valve innate in keeping a man from going over the final edge.

Joy is extremely elusive... seemingly impossible sometimes.

Finding joy is critical to a healthy mind, body and spirit.

Good luck to all in their pursuit of joy.

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

A person doesn't need lots and lots of friends.

Just one or two good friends.

We have to tell our kids that fact. Social media has added a new and terrible obstacle for our young people.

Old fuggers like me need to hear that too sometimes.

Had a good friend call me up and ask me to come drink a beer with him once.

You could never know how glad I am that I dropped everything and drank that beer that night.

Ir's never the answer, and its the most selfish thing you can ever do. It honors the weak, and puts the pain on others.
Ultimately no man controls another. So if that's what you want stop posting and get busy. Your sick and this ain't the suicide hotline.

Is a failed suicide attempted murder?

Not a real member - just an ordinary guy who appreciates being able to hang around and say something once in awhile.

Exactly...

The simplest of things... a tiny tiny blip of kindness...

I cant even begin to understand it. Its just not in my zone. I been in some low spots like many but I never stayed there thank God and I never had any mental or emotional issues complicating climbing out of hard times. I always figured out how to blame myself for whatever condition I was in. Since I got myself in I figured I could get myself out. So I never got a hopeless feeling. If you have hope you might be a fool but you likely arent going think about ending your own life.

Yes and yes. There are a number of situations where it is the correct choice. Pray to God you never find yourself in one of them.
