Decided I need a decent "chef" knife in my kitchen. Everything I have right now is cheap stuff(other than a few Pampered Chef knives my wife bought year ago that while not cheap, aren't very good for the money). I was looking at the Victorinox 6" and 8" Chefs knife. Just wondering of anyone had better suggestions for the money.

I have a Wusthoff set in my kitchen. Been using them for 6-7 years now. They take a good edge and seem to hold up well.

I have had Wustuf and JS Henkel chef knives for over 25 years. I think both were referred to as their classic series. Probably the best money I spent for kitchen tools over my life. I cant say what these brands produce today but the knives I bought from both companies decades ago have been great. At 60 I figure they will outlast me.

Henkel, Wusthof, a big Case, Victorinox, customs from Mike Miller a little of everything. All get used for their purpose.

I support Wusthof as a fine choice. I have a basic set (chef's, carving, serrated, three sizes of paring and four steak knives) that were the basic set in the block when I bought them. I like them so much I've given several sets to family members as wedding gifts. They will long outlast me.

Brazilian made Mundial knives are high quality, lower price. I have several still in use after more than 30 years. +1 on Mundial, especially the 5100 series. Comparable to Wurstoff classic line for a fraction of the price. I don't have their chefs knife but have a few of their smaller knives. https://www.mundialusa.com/en/04-go...eries/5110-8-8-chefs-gift-box-p-484.html

I have tried or used most of the high dollar brands and just keep coming back to an old hickory guess I just don't trust a knife that doesn't rust
