Saw one at a not so local dealer the other day, decent wood with a Burris Scope(I think) guy was asking 1349. Wood was really decent on it. What are these worth these days and are they desirable?

I didn’t care for the long action 8400, especially in standard calibers, because the receiver ring was needlessly bulky. I’m sure people agree because the 84L came out.

^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^

The 8400 30-06 does not attract buyers here if they have hefted an 84L.

My LGS has one on consignment in 300 Win with a 4.5-14X Leupold VX-III for $1100. Looks about like new. This was a few days ago.

If so, can you pm me the details?

I know where one is locally, but chambered in 300WSM. Beautiful chunk of walnut on it, with an ebony tip (black forend tip). The rifle has been hunted hard, so the finish is worn and the stock has a few blemishes. The shop is wanting $1,200.00 for this one. When I looked them up on GB, it looked like they were closer to $1,000.00. I did not care for the weight of the rifle to be honest. I have model 70's that feel lighter, chambered in 300mag as well and a pre 64 30-06 that weighs 6.6 pounds. I also have a Tikka 300WSM that is far lighter, and just as nice (wood stock). I decided that their price is way high. I probably would not give $1,000.00 for a 30-06 either, based on the 300WSM I handled the other day.

I am not interested in a Kimber , just brought it up because I was wondering whether there was any appeal for this rifle. I have not handled it or even seen it in person.

In a magnum cartridge that would be a nice gun and stupid price.

I'd be interested in that one

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

Just checked on his website and he has it listed as a 8400L. I might have to drive down there and look at it now.

Yes.

No such thing as 8400L; only 8400 and 84L so perhaps you will get lucky and it’s the latter.

That's what I am thinking . The stock on this one does not have a perch belly.

The 8400 300WSM I saw at the local shop does not have the "perch belly" either. When I first saw it, I thought it was the super American, but it only says "classic" on it. It may be a classic select model since it has a fancy walnut stock and black forend tip?? It looks just like this one, but with a matte finish bluing that is half way worn off of it:

Oldelkhunter, do you know the exact model? Does it have the black forend tip, with matte bluing, or polished bluing? Classic, or Classic Select, or Super American??

Yes. I disliked it, almost too fat to get my hand around. Hold the 8400, and pass the 84L. Better yet, an 84M. smile

Yes, it has a black forend tip and Matte bluing. There are no pics of the underside and not a close enough pic of the barrel

I bought my first Kimber from a fine fellow I met on here. It shoots really well. I’m eager to hunt with it this fall. It’s a 280, never had one before. I’d buy the one your looking at, seems like a good price

Going to look at in the AM. It has a Blurriss LRS scope on it, I think it is a glorified Full Field with a lit dot.

Manager told me it had a bump or two on the stock. Will decide on it or another one he has .

I have an 8400 Classic in .300 WSM with a VXIII 2.5-8, B&C reticle that I’d be glad to send down the road for $1349. I’ve just lost interest in the rifle. Nice wood, good shape (no perch belly and no black forend tip.) I’d probably include a set of RCBS dies.

Sounds like you are getting desperate for a 30-06. Nothing else available? Pre 64 model 70, Tikka, etc. etc..

I am not desperate for anything at the moment, I am well covered. No more TIkkas(last one) and no pre-64's. It was an item of interest , if it is beat up then I buy something else or leave the store.

Sounds like a good plan. Post some pics, if you end up buying it. Hopefully it's a shooter too.

Classic Select with ebony tip?

If so it's a no brainer at that price

Classic selects are nice. It’s probably the least popular chambering however. What’s the scope worth?

Looks like it. I did some looking myself and I guess some guys had some failures with that scope. Or the illumination failed. I’ve never had one. Wondering if anyone here has experience with it? Oldelkhunter is probably right. Only worth about $200

Ended up buying it , will pick it up tomorrow. Metal looks brand new. One small dent in the stock. The scope is like brand new as well, It will hit the classifieds in a few. It was a limited run by Burris. 3-9x40 LRS

Happy to report that tdd4570 bought the 300 Win mag 8400 I mentioned above. The scope was a 3.5-10X though. A pretty good deal I believe.
