As long as brass is available or can be made from other calibers, for a hand loader, nope nothing is fading in 7 Rem Mag.

He's big on the 8mm rem mag, so that tells you what kind of a freak he is. Nuff said.

Nothing but an article written to spur sales of the magazine... nothing more. If a person ever uses a 7 mag on game, they will like it

I've hunted the world over with a 7 Rem Mag... Canada, Alaska, Argentina, Mexico, Africa and out west. Hard to beat for a medium bore cartridge.

Variety is cool to an extent. Came out with a 7 stw and a 7 rum. Not easy to find that brass, can be done for the right price, but those two cartridge don't do anything a regular 7 mag can't. If you want more boom, go 30 cal. Same with a 280 rem. Good round but what will it give you that a 270 can't? Not enough to tell the difference when you pull the trigger. Healthy gun sales and industry was just fine 20 years ago or whatever. The b.c. and tactical precision cartridges, which is a total joke is all gimmicks. 308 winchester could be called a precision cartridge because it was actually used in tactical/military situations. Like actual wars guys. Not the weekend shooter who wants to be tactical. Get a decent weight of bullet going 2700 to 3000 fps and you'll be fine.

I don’t think it’s dying. I got few buddies that got the 7RM. They use for deer and elk. IMHO, over kill for deer, but it’s a one and done rifle.

Off topic, I absolutely hate when they buy factory ammo with light weight bullets like 140s. It Doesn’t really offer much over the 270 which is cheaper and less recoil.
But hey, they have a magnum that is necessary for elk.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

A lot of his writing influenced my rifle/cartridge choices as a young hunter. That’s why the first three I bought with my own money wore 26 inch barrels and were chambered in belted magnums.

Oddly enough, it was an article he wrote about introducing his daughter to hunting that I found most compelling. 7mm-08 loaded with a bonded 150gr bullet. She killed all sorts of African game with it.

From my magazine reading days, I recall CB using the 30-06, 358, 35 Whelen and .375 H & H. I certainly missed others as I didn’t read everything he wrote.,

His main love was the 8mm rem mag. He loved his magnums though. Had a dislike for the 270w.

2 700 7mm rm's and a l61r like them. Do a fine job. Also have a 7mm saum, 280, 7-08, 2 7x57's and a 7-30 they all work. No matter what you shoot you still need the shooter to do his job and those who don't reload screw themselves..mb

These gun writers say whatever the ammo manufacturers tell them or pay them to say. They are all full of themselves and I certainly wouldn’t make decisions based on anything they say. I like the 7RM, I just don’t ever use magnums of any kind much these days.

They've never been popular around here. I know a LOT of local hunters and have only ever known one who owned a 7 Rem. mag..

The 7RM was the cartridge for the hunter that was dreaming of "hunting elk one day", back when hunters had one big game rifle and maybe a varmint rifle and a 22.

We're no longer "one rifle" hunters. Heck, most of us are reduced to being more of a shooter than a hunter, with hunting opportunities as much reduced as they are. If we're going on that elk hunt, finally, we just buy an "elk rifle". So, people buy good deer rifles, and the 7RM is a bit much for popping a white tail from a tree stand or blind.....

In a similar response to the previous few replies, I have just one friend who owns a 7mm Rem. Mag. & used it last year to take an aoudad. I have another friend who used a .300 Win. Mag. to take an elk. The rest of the guys I hunt with use non-magnum calibers since deer & hogs make up the majority of the game taken.

For longer range antelope or mule deer the 7mm Rem Mag with 140 gr Nosler BT launched at 3,325 fps is quite an impressive performer. Fairly low recoil and laser like performance. It’s not just an elk chamber, it works as designed when used in western Nebraska and throughout Wyoming as intended. There are a host of chambers that will do many things but few are as good as the 7mm Rem Mag at longer range hunting.

I have one. Have had it for probably30 years. Excellent caliber. It became my wife's favorite rifle the last decade or more she hunted. It and my old .300 are my favorite big game rifles. It kills whitetails dead and way out there. It is very popular in my area. At one time a 4wheel drive pickup, a black lab and a 7 mm Mag were the most common things in the hunting field.

Been a few years since I’ve seen factory 7mm mag ammo for sale locally. Makes it hard to sell new ones to new buyers without having factory ammo available for them. Likewise, a local dealer has a beautiful Stevens over and under 410 shot gun that’s also been for sale for a few years. It’s an absolutely beautiful shot gun. But without factory ammo available, no one is buying it.

Food for thought; you could always skip a couple of days worth of @sshole pills - it won't kill you.
Everyone but you knew exactly what the OP was inquiring about.

I had a 7mm Rem Mag back in the day - great rifle, great chambering. But then the next-big-thing came along in the form of the 7SAUM and in a lighter package.

There are no flies on the 7mm Rem Mag, I just don't personally know anyone still shooting/hunting it.
