I’m sure any of the new 6.8s and PRCs will do fine for those who like compromises. YMMV

Well, you don’t get improved performance simply with shorter actions, heavier bullets, and less velocity. Such nonsense is but the dung of horses. If you are after large elk, a .300 Weatherby is just the ticket. For deer, not so much…

Neither the 7PRC nor the 300PRC are short-action cartridges. 215 Bergers at 2950 in a 300WM (or a 300PRC) is an adequate counter-argument against the "no extra performance from heavier bullets", maybe.

Pass the 7 Whizzum and .796 BC 180’s at 2900fps,while BUM droolingly tries to correlate headstamps to B&C. Hint.

Thanks for all the reply’s so far!
I should say this, I have at least 1 or more rifles in 223, 243, 257 Roberts, 257 weatherby, 6.5 creedmoor, 264 win mag, 270 win, 280 rem, 280ai, 7mm rem mag, 30-30, 308, 30-06 and 300 win mag. All around favorite cartridge for the type of hunting I do most is 257 Roberts. I have no need for another rifle in either cartridge, but who cares about need when you get in the mood for a new rifle? I was just wondering how some of y’all might lean between the 2. Great post. And we can’t use that 4 letter word, NEED…! This is the Fire after all, a great enabling site. DF
