what are going to use this rifle for ? big game ? targets ? small game ? if its a coyote -deer rifle then get a 1-9 twist chamber it a 220 swift its a great old cartridge. if its just a paper target rifle you might want a 1-10 twist and shoot the cheaper 55 - 50- 45 gr. bullets in a 22-250 . if you wanna a very accurate paper target rifle get a 8 twist for bigger bullets ,put a single shot follower in the rifle chamber it in a 22 BR. Mostly going to be used for shooting Itty bitty critters to coyotes at loooonnng range and perhaps antelope and deer a bit closer in.

If I were to get my Swift rebarrelled, it would be to .220 Swift AI. you don`t need a AI ,but it mostly depends what your going to use it for ? AI to get rid of the excessive taper and reduce case stretching. I would also go to an 8 twist.

I've had a Swift for over 20 years . Using Lee collet dies, I trim about every five loadings. And I don't "load it down" for longer barrel life. But, I never shot it hot, either. Warm but never enough that I couldn't grab the barrel. 50gr V-max at 4130 with Jim Carmichel's 52gr load of 39gr IMR4064.

Then definitely a 1-8 twist--which allows longer high-BC bullets to be used, which really reduce wind-drift at "loooonnng" range. (Have already described the advantages of heavier monolithics "a bit closer in."

I am getting a 22 250 soon with a 1:8 twist barrel. Does anyone have trouble with lighter bullets ( 45. 50, 55 grain) bullets coming apart when loaded to higher velocities in the fast twist barrels. I have never seen this personally but have heard about it happening.

I have never seen this personally but have heard about it happening. That will depend on which lighter bullet. A 55 grain Ballistic Tip, no problem. A 55 grain Speer TNT may not make it to the target.
