Calling Jimmy Olsen...where are you?
Who's going to make a post about this so I can read the story?

Father, 21 year old son and 14 year old son were trekking the hardest hottest part of the big bend. Temps were estimated at 119*. 14 year old goes down, dad goes back for the truck while 21 year old tries to carry little brother out. They (emergency response) got to the 14 year old and he had passed. They later found the dad had wrecked the vehicle and had also expired. Not sure on the condition of the 21 year old.
Sad deal

What a depressing story! Heat injuries have kicked my ass, I can't do heat anymore, it's a scary feeling! Can't imagine the terror in their minds!

Had to work in it. Short stints, start early, quit at 1430, gallon + of water every day.
But hike in temps over 110F.
screw that.

Dumasses, some people have no sense about the heat and what it can do to a human body. Sorry to hear this, RIP

People don’t realize that extreme heat is just as dangerous as extreme cold but we seem to plan and prepare better when we know we’re facing the cold. Understanding heat exhaustion and heat stroke and knowing how to treat it should be known and understood by anyone that plans on summer outdoor activities….it’s the bare minimum of preparedness. Everyone is so used to having “Google” at their fingertips that nobody cares about learning or retaining the information they’ve read since they can “recall” it with a little tapping on the phone screen….until they can’t.
Personal responsibility is not valued like it once was and intelligence has taken a back seat to typing speed. People think that they’re only a 911 call away from instantaneous rescue and help is little more than a text away…until it isn’t.
I feel bad for that young family but I especially feel bad for the 21 year old brother that had to carry his lifeless brother to “safety” in vain. He’ll forever live with that memory and likely “survivor’s guilt” too. Such an unnecessary waste of 2 young lives…

Dumasses, some people have no sense about the heat and what it can do to a human body. Sorry to hear this, RIP Every year in California, people without a clue about desert heat, die or nearly die out in the Mojave Desert. That place is a certified killer ... if one is not prepared for the overwhelming heat. L.W.

screw that. I fought fire in conditions like that for 30 years. Lake Havasu on the 4th of July one year was 114. After that I said the heck with the Southwest.

I have been caught really thirsty a few times and it SUCKS giant balls.
Water, the right clothes and a nice shady hat.

Many of us have worked outside in hot weather. It doesn’t take long to determine how to work in it and what a person has to do to keep from going down. Also doesn’t take long to know not to go hiking trekking or whatever ya call it in big bend in the hot summer.
Thanks, Billy

No different than the ignorant tourons petting the bison at Yellowstone. One is just plain STUPID with a capital STU and the other one is naive. I have more sympathy for naive and oftentimes naive is one lesson away from being not naive. Whereas stupid is a more pernicious and insidious affliction that gives the idiot a sense of not being an idiot. 😀. Stupid can be generational but not necessarily. Stupid is tough to fix. Stupid is now embraced and celebrated with a huge percentage of this country doing just that….celebrating and embracing STUPID. Stupid can, in a narrow sense, be used as a proper noun ie. Stupid has just fallen off Airfarce 1 or Stupid is scheduled to give a press conference at noon or did you see stupid fall off his bike…

The heat takes if out of me. Working around the house with plenty water breaks, by 10:00/11:00 I've had enough. After that I'm down for the count the rest of the day.
