i have killed deer with both cartridges ,both are good cartridges and so are many others. i don`t use either of these cartridges anymore just because i wanted just one cartridge for family to hunt with at deer camp with less recoil so i went with 257 Roberts for all 3 ladies , myself and my 2 grandkids . this way there will be no confusion on who has what ammo anymore , believe me different size cartridges and keeping track of who has what can be even dangerous.

On the money , never understood the big hoo blah about 270 bs 30-06 , the drop is minimal difference and the 06 can handle much heavier bullets Kenneth

i have the 270 and the '06 and i can't see the difference on deer i've killed. the '06 and the 270 stays in the safe and i'm more than happy with the 7x57 and 30-40 Krag. the 270/30'06 debate is boring, to say the least.

In the good old days, you would load your .270 with 130's at 3100 fps for deer size game and load your .30-06 with 180's at 2700 fps for elk, moose, grizzly etc. On an extended trip up north, you would take both, knowing that one could act as a spare for the other should one of them break.
