Someone will have LOTS to eat for a while. These big fish are not the best table fare. The cheeks will make a good meal though.

I don’t understand the proclivity of some to run down the accomplishments or possessions of others. It isn’t a 56’ Viking; or a world record; but it’s a damn fine fishing boat and a hell of a catch for the Atlantic. For all we know he was solo. He’s clearly standing behind the fish; he may have just set it up that way on a timer.

For the record; my estimate is a buck fiftyish.

Some decent guesses but many were way off. MuskegMan wins handily. Fish was 260 on the nose.

STX is disqualified for egregious cheating and his entry is hereby dismissed with prejudice, since I sent him a text with the picture AND its weight a day before posting here. Some Texans can be so damned bizarre...

FWIW, Mike isn't exactly a small guy at 6'2" or so and around 190 lbs.

Tight lines, y'all.

Wasn't that fish one of the main characters in "Animal House"?

That's a "fish blank". Who gets to draw on the eyes and color it ?

I think that is the first Atlantic Halibut I have ever seen in a pic. I bet it had quite the appetite.

Too funny! wink Actually, the fish was taken not too far from there, in Cape Cod bay in around 250' of water. For years we killed sea ducks by the boatload just off the nuke in Plymouth. It wasn't unusual for both CG to hover over us and check us out in their Jayhawks. Given the weather we often hunted sea ducks out there in--sometimes flat-out unsafe conditions in small crafts-- I think those guys were more concerned to see if we needed help. I have a bunch of pics of guys in the door of the choppers taking pictures of us. More than once we saw plant security eyeballing us from shore with high powered glass. Anyway, good times.

FWIW, the record for Atlantic halibut dwarfs that fish by hundreds of pounds. According to the MA.gov website, the record is from 1917 and the fish was 615 lbs.

https://www.mass.gov/info-details/learn-about-atlantic-halibut#:~:text=Appearance,dark%20brown%20to%20light%20gray.

As far as IGFA records, here's a happy German with a corker of 515 taken in Norwegian waters in 2019. They're out there.
