This is one of them. Uniquely different engraving pattern and not like 3 of the other Rentzschke rifles that utilized the "A" engraving pattern.
I suspect Rentzschke did this one as well as it seems his 99F's were done about the same time period. I'm guessing a few warm ups before he did the One Millionth Rifle. Who knows?
Anybody seen this one in hand?
I wonder if #500,001 left Savage via the R&D collection dispersal as well. ??

That sure looks like Rentzschke's really tight scroll work.
My new Rentzschke should be here tomorrow. But I'm not holding my breath. It's already been delayed one day.

Here are a few pics of 500,001 that I got from John Wright. 99F, .308, Siegfried Rentzschke. One of my favorite rifles!

That is a really interesting rifle. I'm glad you got it. Since it's a 308 it obvious that it is actually a post 900,000 action that Savage used a serial # that they had saved after the move to Chicopee.

Your new rifle Serial 928XXX dates to 1957.

good point, I'll do that. Just tried to access the tracking #. internet won't let me do that. now internet is working. They still say it'll be delivered today.

It came at 3:33 yesterday. Not as nice as the other one but OK for the price. There is no assembly # on the forearm. Recoil pad looks too new to have been on the rifle for very long. The scope lenses were filthy.
Both rifles have assembly code 11I.

11 = same inspector Roland Bienvenue

The letter on 916 says it was shipped in 1964. I'll get a letter on 917.

Don't bother right now with a letter.

Nobody knows where these ledgers are.

Savage never gave them to Cody is what Cody has told me.

The last they have is some intermittent shipping records for serial numbers 400000-436558.

JTC indicated he found the factory records for S/N 928916 on microfiche, not in a ledger.

Yep. But Cody says they don't have them.

Maybe “Effie” could shed some light. A potential contact anyway.??

The tenor of the letter was that Savage kept records on microfiche during this time period and that is where JTC looked for and found the record for 928916. My sense is that the microfiche was kept in a different location, it still exists and no one even thought of sending it to Cody.

Does anyone know or recall when Savage dispersed of their R&D guns?

I thought someone here had some insight. ??
