260Remguy has spoken of seeing them being resold by some retailers in the northeast.

I seem to remember it was late 80's, probably as they were facing/going through bankruptcy that led to Coburn taking over.

The first letter from Roe for #500,001 was dated 1982. Hmmm....

Here is an attempt to list the known Rentzschke rifles.
Feel free to double check accuracy.
Rick99, I don't have the 5th. ??

A guy named Michael Burt has one. I thought he is a member on here. I'll check with him and see if he minds the serial number being posted on the forum.
#917 shot pretty good till the scope fogged up.

Thanks David.
S.N., caliber, LBC, letter or any other info would be great.

Well IF the microfiche still exist, this may be a job for David Royal and Ron Coburn to get thru to Savage and identify them.
Then figure out whose hands to get them in. Hopefully one of us that could analyze them, digitize them and make them available.
Ya gotta have hope! smile

Mike Burt's Rentzschke is serial #928,927(only 9 and 10 digits off from my rifles), LBC11J, caliber 308. He wasn't able to get a letter.
Here is a copy of my JTC letter on 928,916. Note that he said the info was on microfilm.

I called the Cody museum. They said they don't have data for anything after 1941. I then called the Savage factory. They said they only had data for 1995 and later and that they definitely did not have the microfilm for the 50's and 60's.
I'll try to get in touch with Ron Coburn later. I've got to get on with my day. Hungry horses, a rifle that needs to be zeroed in, get ready to hunt tomorrow, etc.

Thanks for trying David.
I guess Mr. Callahan is the only person who may shed light on the microfilm. Sigh…

put a Leupold 1 1/2 X 4 scope on the Rentzschke. Zeroed it and shot 2 groups, 1 1/4" and 1 1 5/8". Nosler 150 partition, 43 g. RL15 and 210 primer. This load gave good groups with the EG 308 and the DE 308.
It hailed before I could get the target in. the target is that white thing flapping the breeze in the background. It was in the ditch before the hail stopped. Shoulda snowed good in the mountains. Can't see them yet for clouds. Going elk hunting tomorrow with the EG 308. Will take the Rentzschke when the weather is better.

I've read ~100 too.
Does that come via Roe and ledger access? or some other knowledge?

Comment from Roe, not from the ledger.

I wonder what the story is on a 308 with serial # 764145. Another later action an earlier serial #? There doesn't appear to be anything significant about the serial # unlike 500,001. Or essentially a single shot?

Yeah, me too! Since it's and R&D gun it's hard to tell what the internals look like. I sorta thought maybe they used that one to fit up the magazine change. It might be milled out for the new rear rotor support? If not - it's just a single shot. But doubt they would do that?
