I will add one reason - healthcare and wealth protection. Care and Caid have enough loopholes that wealth can be quickly sucked up with assisted living, nursing homes and other costs of insurance. Caid will cover an individual with limited means or Care can cover those with "disabilities" and max out benefits. There is a model that folks are divorcing shifting assets publicly, living together privately and protecting wealth. Person A has a significant health need. They divorce and lose the net asset value in the process. It does not require an equitable settlement. Person A and Person B continue as if still married, but all assets are then transferred to Person B. Person B; healthier and with a longer projected lifespan, places those assets in a trust protected from Caid and Care requirements, still has access until passing and then, after 3-7 years, can also get on Caid a and protect assets and income. Had a family friend I helped outa a healthcare jam that owed $30,000 for one episode of care, lived in a $600,000 beach house, had a 34 ft fishing cat. Was making less than $12,000 a year in "income" and had limited assets in their name. Helped them obtain charity care for the entire balance. Ah yes, find a way for everyone else to pay for it instead of their own finances. Very clever.

I just found out yesterday that my half-sister [middle] and her husband divorced. They're hardcore Christians , I guess that's why it surprised so much. They raised several kids who are now in their 20's-30's. I haven't been in contact with them in 20 years.
Youngest sister and all info. of her and family has been deleted from facebook? Why would you GAF?
Trump being classless, tasteless and clueless as usual. Sorry, trump is a no tax payin pile of shiit. My young wife decided to play the field and had moved several dudes into my house

It’s not all gloom and doom. Plenty of old timers get divorced so one spouse can collect social security at the higher rate their spouse earned. Then they can live together. Or the wife just learned she doesn’t need her slob of a hubby anymore and can collect that cash.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I am a boomer. I am married to the only gal I ever married. Our marriage will end when one of us goes in the coffin. That is all I will say on the matter.

rates of divorce among women nearly quadrupled
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the only part of the equation that matters. 87% of divorces are filed by wimmenz. They have more to gain and little to nothing to lose. And most already have the next guy waiting in the wings.

I know numerous retired people that got divorced. I get it. When you're young, you both are working and raising kids in most cases. During those years you grind out work and parenthood. You're on the same team, the kids are the glue keeping you together. Years fly by and the kids that were buffers move out. Suddenly, it's you and the wife one on one again. After all of those years together it's easy to get complacent and grow apart. The re-connection is difficult for many people as the years have changed both parties goals and dreams. Mix in some contacts from outside influences and it's truly a struggle. Social media is a big negative in many marriages also. Lots of hookups start there. Good post, lots of truth here.

No divorces in my extended family during my 72 years.
My wife and I have been doing it for 47 years, and we are still like teen agers on a date.

I know numerous retired people that got divorced. Main thing there is they grew apart and didn't even know it 'til one day they stopped going to work and sat there at home looking at each other and trying to have a conversation for the first time in 40 years ...
