And of course after market tongue oil, varnish, etc. Do you have a specific example in mind? It can be extremely difficult to tell if a shiny stock on a minty gun is original or somebody simply added some True Oil or similar, as Rick said. As you saw there certainly were glossy finishes but as I mentioned above I have not seen a high build epoxy gloss finish of the likes of Browning on any 99.
