Has anyone else noticed the really nice fit and finish on the new Remington rifles? I was so impressed with a few I've seen in the gunshop, I ordered a 700 BDL .30-06 because I didn't have a standard '06 in my collection.

I think it may be as nice of a gun to ever carry the Remington name. Kind of excited to shoot it and see how it does. Also, .243s and 7mm Mags now have more modern twist rates.

On a non-rifle note, I was a comparing a new Wingmaster at the gunshop to an older Wingmaster with the silver carrier. I thought the new 870 was the nicer of the two. Plus, the new gun had more wood on the buttstock so it was not as barrel heavy as the older guns, which had about a half thickness butt (the exception being the SC Skeet guns, which had more normal buttstock dimensions). I've never cared much for the 870s I've owned but may buy one of the new ones.

I believe their rifles have 5r rifling, they should be top notch, i really wish RemArms would reintroduce a good quality ADL wood stock

I bought a like new wood-stocked ADL .30-06 at a gunshow a few years ago. If memory serves, it was a "B" series serial number and early 1980s production.I paid around $350 and had high expectations. My plan was to put it into a McMillan and go hunt a lot of stuff with it. I never could get it to shoot better than 1.5-2", though it consistently shot that way with everything. After bedding it and running about 300 rounds of different handholds through it trying to make it shoot, I sold it. Probably should have recrowned it or better yet rebarreled it.

I suspect this new one will be better.

Yeah I have noticed the same with the new Remarms firearms. Fit and finish of the few I have seen has been excellent indeed....Hb

Back in the early spring, I ran up on a new ADL .223 at the LGS.
Asked the guy how the new ones shot. He responded that they hadn’t had any feedback besides none of them had been brought back.
Gonna be interesting, I kinda liked the little .223…..

I will report back after I put a few rounds through the .30-06 BDL I just bought.

Interestingly enough, my youngest is 9 and loves all classic looking bolt rifles and lever actions. He rarely comments much on the modern stuff but was really asking questions about the shiny new BDL. He also really likes Browning auto-5s. For him, I think the modern guns with plastic stocks and stainless barrels are the guns dad mainly shoots and the wood and blue guns are the interesting, cool guns.

I have a mild interest in their Wingmaster .410. The Fieldmaster I saw on the clays range looked decent, certainly better than an Express, but the plastic trigger guard makes me sad, and the stock finish was too dark IMO. The guy had a couple of malfunctions too, but those may well have been his fault. I’ll wait to see one in the flesh before I decide, and that’s pretty tough right now.

I was impressed by the ones I've seen. 5R rifling and the Timney trigger ( Though its not adjustable..) are both improvements.

I purchased one of the new 700 SPS Varmint .243 8 twist with the 5r and Timney trigger. I shot it yesterday. The Copper Creek 105 didn’t perform well(I’ve had great luck with their ammo previously), the Federal Blue box 100 grain and Winchester 95 NBTshot about an 1”. I’ll hit the range again tomorrow with more options.

I’ve handled about a dozen but haven’t taken the plunge on one yet. The BDLs and CDLs are the best fit and finish I’ve seen on Remington rifles. I’ve also seen a few of the Long Range, Sendero II, and plastic stock models that seem to have good fit/finish.

I handled an Alpha 1 a couple weeks ago. The stock ergos and weight made it a no-go for me. The stock was too deep, the bbl channel had too much "gunwale", and the whole thing was about 1.5# heavier than it needed to be.

I will be interested to see how much COAL they allow in the mag-box in the 1:8 223 Alpha 1.

I’m hoping they bring back the mountain rifle, especially if they can make a threaded barrel version. I like my two X-Bolts and Tikka T3Xs, but I’d probably ditch one for a QUALITY 700 properly configured.

All I’ve seen locally are all SPS versions and one BDL version in .30-06. The BDL one is really nice, but the LGS is asking $1,039 for it, so they can keep it. Now if I could find a 1:8 twist CDL at that price, I’d think about buying it.

I'm up in Maine this week and just stopped by LL Bean to see what's on the rack. Clean, used BDLs are marked $1299. Certainly not a discount store, but jeepers.

New gun rack is a sea of tupperware. It seems that anything with walnut and machine cut stippling or checkering is a now a premium product.

If you take the introductory price for the 700 BDL in 1962 and run it through the CPI inflation calculator it'll come to about $1400 in today's money.

Checked on availability of Alpha1 in 7RM today. Now saying won't start building until December and should become available 1st quarter 2024. MSRP over $2K but many sites listing it around $1850.

Well RemArms fixed the twist rates on several offerings - 8 twist on the 223, 243, and 7mm Rem Mag. The short action mag box length is a different story...

I'd really like to see a stainless 700 SPS in 6.5PRC, just in case RemArms is listening.

Sps finish is way better. Kinda like the cdl. Like a black smooth finish. Jeweled the bolt and they have better triggers. I talked with a smith who was blueprinting one and he said his tool barely touched the receiver. Said the new ones are the best they've ever put out.

That's exactly right. People want the aesthetics of the older guns but forget they weren't exactly cheap at the time. Hunters spent good money for a nice rifle.

I fondled a 700 cdl the other day.

Very nice wood and metal finish. Seemed very well built.
The one turd in the punch bowl was an ill fitted recoil pad. It wasn’t really close.

I agree. If you think today's guns are pricey, go get an older Gun Digest and run the prices through an inflation calculator. It is eye opening. 2019 may have been the good old days (no or fewer shortages and pricing as adjusted for inflation was not terrible).

Did RemArms change the catalog numbers on the new rifles?

Some websites show the old twist rates on them.

I don't want to buy old stock.

I shot some Federal .243 95 grain Hybrid Hunters out of my new 1/8 twist Varmint yesterday. Rifle seemed to like them. 3/4 at 100.

I’m possibly gonna upgrade the trigger and the stock at a later date. But I’m pleased for a $750 rifle in todays world.

No argument from you there. If you want quality, you have to pay for it. I’ll eventually fork over the money for one, but I’ve got other priorities at the moment. I’d rather pay the $1,100 asking price I’ve seen online rather than spend $600 on a budget rifle that could be had 3-4 years ago for almost half the price.

The new guns I’ve seen have a serial number starting with RAR and twist rates stamped on barrel next to chambering.

I was eyeballing a ADL in 223 with the 1-8 twist at the LGS to replace an older one I have with the 1-12. Not sure which route to go. Rebarrel the one I have or just get the newer one.

If your current 223 is accurate and you like it, I'd just rebarrel with no other work or changes. You can get exactly the twist and contour and length you want. If I ever wear the barrel out on my old 223 that is the plan for it.

OR

You could keep the old one, buy the new one and have two!

No, I sold my house at the top of the market, made a decent amount, and moved into my rental house I bought years ago to fix it up.

But you knew that and just wanted to start schit.

local LGS has 2 700 BDLs of new manufacturer. One in 243 and one in 30-06. I am a sucker for Classic looking rifles, thus have not handled one to save myself from parting with the money.

My LGS has a new CDL in .300 Winchester Magnum and a 7mm Rem Magnum. What really caught my eye was the iron-sights atop a BDL in .308 Winchester! It tempts me every time I go in.
