About 6 months ago one of my Uncles callled me up. Had some rifles he was taking to the gun show to sell. A long time family friend, since passed many years ago was a bit of a rifle looney. He died before I really got to know him. When he died he passed his rifles to his son, then when Bobo died, my Uncle got them.
One of them was a mint, numbers matching Oberndorf Mauser, 7x57. I bought it, 250 bucks.
I just picked it up from Ed Lapour. Had him install a 3 position safety on it and change out the old scope mounts for something more modern.
For the last 6 months I’ve been debating about whether I should buy a barrel, (7x57 Mauser), have him chamber it and install it, then have Bruce Farman build one of his stocks for it. Still on the fence, but I’m leaning that way hard.
No rust, mint condition action, numbers matching Oberndorf. Don’t see many of those anymore.

Yes. Military profile. I have no history/info on this rifle. Just know it’s a Oberndorf, 7x57 in mint condition. Stock is a aftermarket stock of some sort.
The man I referred to was a rifle nut in the 40’s and the 50’s. Just a well preserved rifle of that period. If I have if it done, which I’m really leaning towards, I’m going to keep the factory bottom metal. Serial number matches, and it says “Made in Germany.” Pretty cool rifle.

Ed Lapour said it was in great condition and an excellent basis for a nice rifle. He’d know. He’s done a couple.

Yes. At least as far as I know. I was at his house today and he had a full rack of guns he was fiddling with. I suspect he’s slowed down considerably.

If you have the money or can reasonable afford to borrow it. I would have them build a lightweight 22-23" barrel 7mm sporter in Classic stock style while you have access to these artist.

Cool project ...... Tagged for interest. That beautiful rifle you have has inspired me to do one. Here is the maker's site. While it's in Canada there are some nice ideas to gaze upon. https://www.griesbachcustom.com/Chris gets the credit for that rifle. I would have botched it without his direction.

Ed Lapour does some mighty nice work: & Is that yours? I’ve seen a few rifles he and Bruce Farman have collaborated on. Incredible. True artists. Bruce is my Moms cousin. Of the Farman pickle family.

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you guys to push me off the edge into the deep end! You came to the right place. Enablers galore here. And we’re here to “ help”…. Happy to spend your money. (Man, that sounds like the govt.) But we require pictures when done. DF
