What's the consensus? My application will be pronghorn antelope at possibly long range.

What is your definition of long range?

Not a 270, but I used 100 grain BTs in a 257wby anf 90 grain BTs in a 240 Wby on antelope, with great results. So my opinion is go with the 130 grain.

Antelope are easy to kill with proper shot placement, so any accurate (out of your rifle) cup and core bullet is sufficient. I've used both corelokts, power points, and nosler partitions in 130 grs out of my 270win. They all worked. I've only shot them out to about 325 yards so not sure if that qualifies as long range.

Empirical data supports the 130 grain BT easily to 450 yards…

For any thin skinned critter under 350 lb, the 130 gr bt at 3100 fps MV has proven reliable.

I have shot a couple with the 130gr BT, they worked. Thinking the 150gr would have done the same.

Both will work as far as you can hit an antelope.

I definitely won't be shooting over 500 yards.

I think all of them will work. Shoot what makes you happy. You ever be shooting your rifle, trying to get a good group? It just feels right while you're shooting it- go with that one. It leads to confidence.

What you have, what you can find, or what shoots best in your rifle. 150s can go 3000 with RL26, so trajectory should be plenty flat. Mule Deer did a piece where he compared the .270 with 150s and Everybody’s Favorite .26 with 140s, and with ABLRs the old girl was ahead in all the categories except recoil out to 500 yard IIRC, a lot farther than I’ll ever shoot.

I need to get my 1948 FN out for some exercise. That heavy bitch has never seen the woods.

I'd go with accuracy. Cookie goes with 130's on elk and has never had one escape.

I can't think of a good reason why a 150gr. .270 BT needs to exist.

I shoot 130's out of my 270. They have done me good for deer and antelope size game

The 130gr monometals have certainly changed the game. They will certainly do everything 150gr C&C bullets will do.

This Fall I am hunting with a 1:8 twist 270 WCF. Using 155gr LRX at approx 3000fps. Is the extra 25gr needed? Maybe, maybe not? It certainly worked, pass through.

Here is my freezer filler elk from last month. 170 yard shot, spike went 20 yards and was done. Delicious! Still have antelope and deer for this fall. Will see how it works on the smaller freezer fillers.
