764145 wasn't finished until 1960.. letter says an 11L boss stamp on it.

So I'm guessing it's a 900,000 series receiver with just an earlier serial number stamped on it for some odd reason. Kind of like 500,001. Why? Darned good question.

I think the magazine rework is the answer. I can't imagine it leaving the factory a single shot.

30 years between Roe’s factory letter noting that Rentzschke did the engraving on 500,001 and JTC’s factory letter indicating Rentzschke engraved 928,916. No one even knew these factory engraved guns existed until 10 years ago.

Agree. 764145 was the tail end before Savage (almost) skipped the 800,000 series and created the 900,000 cutoff.
BTW - 500,001 S.N is engraved vs. stamped. It's a Savage thang.

Yea, I have no direct knowledge and I believe Roe's comments, but if there were ~100 or even 50 you'd think we see them occasionally. ??

Roe knew of Rentzke, I think he knew him personally when he worked there. Callahan also had some information on them. So they weren't totally unknown, except to us.

There are 60 Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation rifles out there.

How many have you seen sell in the last 15 years? Probably similar to how many Rentzke rifles we've seen sell. So it's not impossible.. and it's possible there's somebody out there that owns 20 of 'em. We just don't know.
I'd be surprised if it's really 100 tho. Probably lower, just as a gut feel.
