I moved from EJ to fidelity. EJ cost me a bunch of money. Their fees on individual trades were huge. They charged me $600 to buy $25k of RDS and then charged me another $700+ to sell it a week later for $39k. They talked me out of buying $50k of Boing at $90. When Bidet stole the office I told them to park it in a money market account until I was ready to get back in.
Then I made the mistake of not opening my quarterly statements fir a year and a half because they told me they parked it all. I finally opened one and they had put it all in bonds so they could get a 4% load. Yes they put it in bonds while rates were going up like crazy. I lost tens of thousands.
That's when I moved everything to fidelity. I haven't done much with it just some CD ladders but I'm making over 5%. I've been trying to decide what to get back into but I don't like the state of the world. With EJ a lot depends on your individual advisor but one thing is for sure with them and that's high fees. At fidelity they'll give you a free advisor if you have over $250k with them. Ours calls us from time to time to see if we are ready to dive back in.

At my wifes insistence we put a good bit of retirement funds into Edward Jones . Over the last nearly 20 years I think it maybe has a 3 percent annualized gain. Granted, I'm conservative but its hard to stay in a boat with lots of leaks. If I change to something like Vanguard Total Stock are the capital gains going to kill me? OMG - I can't believe you PUT UP with that crap for 20 years. OMG !!!!

I had 3 " financial advisors". The first one didn't know anything. Chrged 4.25% for a Franklin bond fund ( FKUSX).. It lost money when the stock market was going very well in 2011. The next one was asl at a bank. He sold me franklin funds with another 4% load... At least he diversified. The next one was so awful that I left after 2 yrs. I still track his funds he sold me and most are still doing terrible to this day and I left in 2015. I have Fidelity, I can buy anything for almost nothing , very little ex. ratio , no load and a dollar to sell a stock. They charge a few cents per thousand to sell a stock. I am not keeping up with the market , especially after last year . The market gained 25% last yr. and I only gained 3.6% . However, in 2022 , the market lost 19% and I gained 6%.. so, I ma steady. Most years though I am very close to the S&P 500. I have stocks, Stock ETF's and some Bond ETF's.
