Home Forums Reloading Shotshells reduced recoil - factory 20g ammo experience?

I am coaching some newbies on our youth trap team. I have a couple very excited and enthusiastic young shooters (9 yr olds, about 75 # soaking wet). They want to shoot in the worst way but I don't want to traumatize them or develop flinching habits due to recoil.

They're outfitted pretty well with firearms - both have youth model 1100 20g shotguns. I would normally reload some reduced 3/4 oz fodder but we're technically required to use factory ammo for liability purposes................I know, silly.

Anyway, has anyone used the Fiocchi Reduced Recoil 3/4 oz, 20-g ammo (or equivalent)? Do they substantially reduce recoil? I hate to go to the expense of feeding a 28 g when they have good shotguns already.

I've never used the Fiocci, but the Winchester low noise/recoil 20s tamed down a couple nasty little single shots I had nicely. I bought a couple cases of them from Graf, and then ended up selling the guns shortly thereafter. I've been thinking of picking up a youth 20 one of these days to start my boy (also 9) on shotguns without running myself into bankruptcy on 410 rounds.

The work fine on clays, but I'm not sure if they'd have enough giddyup to operate a semi.

Yes. I keep some on hand all the time. The Fiocchi trainer 20’s recoil like a popgun. I single load them in a youth sized Beretta 390. As you must know, the bigger problem is having a 75# kid properly handle a shotgun. Usually results in terrible stance and mechanics.
