It is Rory Calhoun and this one isn't relevant

Rory C in The Texan series. No relevance except I wonder now where another Rory got his name.

I was the third boy. My folks were running out of names.
My mom thought Rory Calhoun was a good looking guy.
So, I got named Rory.
My grandpa and others called me Calhoun since I was a little tike.. It's always been my nickname.

I do believe he was a gun guy, tho not Savages as far as I've been able to find.

He was horse back riding in the hills around Los Angelos, a movie star was doing the same and thought he would could make it in wester movies, I don't remember who the star was

In 1943, while horseback riding in the Hollywood Hills, he met actor Alan Ladd, whose wife was an agent. Sue Carol Ladd landed him a one-line role in the Laurel and Hardy comedy The Bullfighters under the name Frank McCown. Shortly after, the Ladds hosted a party to which Sue invited David O. Selznick employee Henry Willson, an agent known for his stable of young, attractive, marginally talented actors with unusual names. Willson signed him to a contract and initially christened him Troy Donahue, then changed his name to Rory Calhoun. As he did with all his protégés, Willson carefully groomed him and taught him basic social manners.

Calhoun’s first public appearance in the film capital was as Lana Turner’s escort to the premiere of Alfred Hitchcock’s Spellbound, a Selznick production. The glamorous blonde and her swarthy date drew the attention of the paparazzi, and photos of the couple appeared in several newspapers and fan magazines. Selznick loaned his now in-demand contract player to other studios, where Calhoun appeared in Adventure Island with Rhonda Fleming, The Red House with Edward G. Robinson, and That Hagen Girl with Shirley Temple.

Also did time in fed pen and San Quentin on robbery charges when he was a minor. Got out just before he turned 21.

I like that. When I was nine I thought for a full year my middle name was from a cartoon character in a comic strip.

There was the occasional jab that I was named after Rory Raccoon...

I was assured there was no foundation to this.

As a kid I worked at International Trap & Skeet in El Monte, CA both in the trap houses and later pulling and scoring. Mr. Calhoun used to compete there often with his two lovely Brownings his wife and a couple of daughters who shot also. Good trap shooter and very nice man, very tall, always tipped. We had all kinds of Hollywood types shoot there including Robert Stack who was smooth very good many 24-25 scores. Buddy Epson very good very big big man, Sterling Hayden shot Parker SxS very good another big tough looking guy, John Russel decent, Rita Hayworth pretty good, Denver Pyle decent, Robert Cummings less than decent, Clark Gable not decent, Ida Lupino very small pretty good and there were more. Most of them were dressed up, big glasses and hats hard to ID but the score sheets had their names. Company policy don’t ask for autographs, picture or bother them.

That appears to be Kipp Hamilton. Mostly scattered appearances in different series, 4 episodes of The Texan. Was in The Unforgiven.

I read a little about Mr. Calhoun many years ago, this made me try and find the exact quote I remember of his -

When Lita Baron sued for divorce, she named 79 women with whom he had allegedly committed adultery. Calhoun responded, "Heck, she didn't even include half of them".

Alan Ladd was the actor he met while horse back riding. The was just a short time after he got out of prison at 21 after a 3 year sentence for auto theft. He had been sent to reform school when he was 13 for stealing a gun, but escaped.

I was always a bit of a Rory Gallagher fan. Bluesy to rock.

Saw Taste live in Chicago when they toured with Delaney & Bonny and Blind Faith. I still have an old Taste album and one of Rory's solo albums. Ringo left the Hurricanes when asked to join the Beatles, I'm sure they insisted he lose that Teddy Boy hairdo. The song in the video was a cover of an Eddy Cochran song.

Interesting history of your 'Handle' Rory. I have a nickname also that goes back along time ago also given to me by a long time friend.
