I had a member here sell me a complete 243 C barreled action for $200 or $250. I found a very high condition DL in 308 for $350, and a post mill E in 308 for $350. No offense to any one, but every time some one says that item will go for X dollars, and I find one and offer it for half, every one says, "Oh, it's just a project, I don't want to put that kind of money in it. I'll have twice in it than what I can buy one for." I know some stuff goes crazy on line. But for parts, I'd put my BIN price on it and be willing to set till it sells, maybe a year, or a penny sale and take what ever it goes for. Once the bidding starts, you never know, it may go high.

Yeah, Joe, but how many years ago was that? Prices of this stuff has escalated dramatically in a very short time.

Actually it was all pre Covid, so that's a good point. Pre Covid I was offered $25-30,000 for the WV property, Yesterday I got a check for $85,000 in the mail. Said just sign it and come to settlement. Not ready to let it go yet.

In fairness, the member should have held onto the action for another project, but considering your kindness while I was in your half of the world I think it ended well. grin

Prices on used project rifles have really gone up. Last year I sold 7 well used beater rifles with good barrels but needed either stocks or some other cosmetic issue. Avg price was $425.

Well, this thread didn't go where I'd hoped.

Thanks to everyone that has expressed interest in buying all or parts of the rifle, but I wasn't trying to sell it here or bypass the classifieds, it isn't up for open sale right now. I have offered it to someone and was trying to work out a fair price by asking here for input since I haven't parted out a rifle before. I'm pretty sure that is going to work out, but if for some reason it doesn't then I'll get back to folks that have made offers.

wyo1895: guy I'm dealing with isn't interested in the stocks so standby. Note - they've had sling swivel studs added.

My advice would be to look at what a F like yours with a good barrel is going for on an auction site and then price yours accordingly. And if you break it down into two parts (stock set and barreled action) I’d then fix a price on each part. I can’t tell what that would be today but if I was a savvy customer I’d be seriously questioning the value of the two parts when compared to the value of a good 99 that’s ready to shoot “right off the shelf.” It’s that sum total of the parts not exceeding the whole kind of logic, especially if you sold the parts to the same buyer. And should I hazard a guess at the value of a good 99F in 308, I’d say somewhere north of 1K and south of 1.5K, making 1250 a reasonable starting number.

I think that I have a couple of 99F 308 barrels in a box somewhere. They are for pre-1960 receivers have have the square thread pattern. If you're interested, I could look for them. I have a couple of dozen 99 barrels, but most are post-1960 "V" thread pattern in 243, 250, 300, and 308.
