Looks like everyone had a great time! My son and I are hunting this Saturday evening with Freedom Hunters and a semi-local coon hunting club. They should be a bit easier to pack out than elk. 🇺🇲

Awesome deal! Luv’n it……I sure miss the elk hunting in Wyoming. I may be a touch bit envious as Idaho elk are making a fool of me (again)😀.

Quick Q. Is there a reason you’re sawing that leg off instead of cutting it at that joint above the Achilles’ tendon? Doesn’t matter….just curious as I have stopped carrying a saw.

Great question. I guess I don't know. I used to saw the antlers off of the bulls so that's probably why. Now, that we have gone to just quick skinning the head I could ditch the saw as well. Good point. Guess it's just habit since my elk pack never really gets unpacked other than when I wash it, then I put everything back into it and put it on the shelf.

Well, maybe you can try getting over on these Wyoming elk this next season, I hear they aren't near as bright as the Idaho elk grin

That works. I have a few habits with my gear that just die hard.

I will get back to WY at some point but I like this spot in Idaho because it is 70 miles from Mom’s place and my horses. That, and I get dirt cheap tags.

Today is the last day here though…I jumped something 20 minutes ago that sounded like an elk but I never saw it. I am on a ridge now with lots of sign, watching an opening.

It’s my last chance….

beretzs, That’s a very admirable thing that you and the others did for the Vets!

Great story, great pictures and I’m certain that the rewards were great!

Well done Sir! memtb

We do it together. It’s a good deal for us Vets and as you all tha served likely know, it’s hard to keep in touch after being out. Hunting is my best way of getting the boys back together.

That was one hell of a good trip. What kind of tags did you have? I have no idea how that works in Wyoming.

The old man had a cow/calf and a general. I had a general.

Check out Hunts for Heroes, combat vets inc, Wyoming chapter, etc. there’s a list of available tags on WFG page.

Renegade69 is gonna be all over this! Last time you told the story you had shin splints. Hard to keep track of what you told and to whom you told? That's a sign! 🤦‍♂️

Wyoming allows hunters to donate any of their licenses to wounded vets or disabled persons. That way they get a licenses they do not have to pay for.
Hunting with Heroes also does hunts for vets.
We fortunately have several organizations that help wounded vets hunt in Wyoming.
