Old son took nice 6x7 last evening out of a herd here on the ranch with his 1954 vintage Model 70 30/06. Nosler partition 180 pt bullet. 55 grns H4350. 140 yds.

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Then they all ran down the meadow to me. And I got a gap in the herd and got this 5x5 at about 200 yds with old Husqvarna ( one We rechambered to 93.x62) 270 grain Speer Hot core and I can’t remember the load of IMR 4064. Boom flopped this boy!

Found my data. Was shooting 56 grains of IMR 4064 behind that 270 grain Speer Hot-core.

And thanks again fellas for the nice comments

That was a bad one. The ridge shows that you were in the middle of it. How did the rest of the ranch fare? Lots of homes lost-bad deal.

About 2/3’s of the ranch burned. But we lost no structures. One of the good things was my now late aunt who was ranch owner had started a pine beetle kill mitigation of lots of dead wood the year before. May have saved the south end of Grand Lake.

Congratulations, nice bulls! You made that sound too easy though. Those burn scars are kind of eerie, especially the ones right inside the park where the trees are all either blown over or snapped off in the same direction.

I’ll bet that bull couldn’t tell the difference between 4064 and 4350! Great job!

I’m deer hunting next week with my 9.3 Lite, aka .35 Whelen. Got to drag it out of the safe with a new scope.

Congrats Kaywoodie.

I got an invite from my neighbor to join their group to hunt that area. The first time I've been up there since the big fire. We saw more elk in 2.5 days than I've seen in all of my other elk hunts combined. Unfortunately,, they were all on private . Having no trees to hide in sure makes them visible from miles away.
