If you don’t have Reddit, you probably won’t be able to see this video. It appears to be a soldier in Ukraine shooting down a drone with probably a Saiga 12 shotgun.

Not what I would pick for aerial targets, but here is the first video of a drone being shot down, as I suggested in a previous thread.

Give me a Model 12 with some magnum 5 or 6 shot. Mod choke.

Pretty sure the model 12 magnums were all full choke if you’re talking 3 inch. Mine is and I’m sure full would work too.

Not 3” shells. Magnum (hardened) shot is what I was referring to.

I have a 30” full that does fine for doves, even up close, but it can whack them way out there too. I think a less constrictive choke would be good as things get closer obviously. Also, those old shotguns were choked at a time when shotgun shells weren’t as uniform and didn’t protect pellets like they do now with modern one piece shot cup/wads. A modified choke with hardened shot would probably have pretty good range to it as well. With 7 shells in the tube, I’d open up at 50 yards and keep shooting til it’s down or I’m dead.

The shotgun would probably also be effective with a lot of the close trench fighting that is happening on that front.

Been saying it all along since drones started becoming prevalent: our soldiers and marines need access to shotguns and TSS shells and taught how to shoot them. These consumer drones are taking out men and mutli-million dollar equipment. Last ditch defense calls for a shotgun. A load of TSS Blackcloud seems ideal.

Great. That means there will only be 1149 operating over that sector of the front that day instead of 1150.

Nope. Different video. The video I posted shows a soldier sheltered in a bombed out building, shooting through where a wall probably used to be. Similar scenario though. In the video I posted he shoots several rounds to down the drone. I imagine the Ukes and Ruskies don’t have much experience with recreational skeet shooting or bird hunting. I think Americans could probably knock down a drone more efficiently.

Haha!

I’ve seen less of Johnny NyQuil lately. Perhaps he is doing the Lord’s work in Ukraine right now.

I don't think the ~200 foot range of shotguns is going to get it most of the time.

We’ll they tend to explode around 0-5’ from their target, so you have a little space in between to work with.

TSS for the win!

Saw yesterday that the military is looking at EMP to stop drone swarms.

Sort of like duck hunting for ducks that can shoot back. I guess that would bring the level of concentration to a whole new level.

If you Lee able to watch any of the videos there are two types of drones they are using. One is used to run into the enemy soldier and detonated on contact with the soldier or surrounding environment.

The drones that are dropping bombs tend to be doing it from about 100’ or so, based on the time it takes most of their ordinance to hit the ground. Usually about 3 seconds.

A suicide drone, yes. But they are coming in hot, so the scattergunner had better be ready.
Most of the surveillance drones and grenade-dropping drones that I've seen on video look like they are out of shotgun range.
They will need something that can track and kill enemy drones at those longer ranges.
