This book is David Baldacci's latest, released Nov. 14, 2023, and is the second book in the 6:20 man series. In it the protagonist, Travis Devine, is sent to Maine to investigate the murder of a woman who was a CIA operative named Jenny Silkwell. Jenny was from the small town of Putnam, Maine, and returned there to take care of some 'unfinished business' related to her family. While there she is murdered and her cellphone and laptop are missing. Are there spies involved from unfriendly places? Of course, well at least assassins from unfriendly people. Once Devine gets to the small town things really go sideways in a hurry and the clues he finds don't make a lot of sense at all. Are the police involved? Sometimes it looks like it. More murders occur after his arrival and old time families and money are involved. What a mess. And trying to sort it out takes you through about 99% of the book.
Unrealistic? Of course, i'ts a novel, but it is certainly entertaining.
It's worth a read.
