Quick and dirty:

Son wants one for Christmas. Wavering between the 357/9mm cylinder combination gun, or the 45 LC. He already shoots several different 9mm striker fire pistols, so I guess I'm having a hard time seeing the utility of the 2 cylinder gun.

Any and all advice anyone can give would be most appreciated. I have a rather well appointed reloading bench, so we are able to reload anything if a die can be found.

I'm not a fan of Combo Cylinder guns except for 22LR/Mag. I would go with the 45 Colt, just because I'm a big fan of the cartridge.

Of those two I would go with the .45 as well however, a .357 combo could use the .38’s as well as 9mm. Three different options if these shortage trends continue isn’t a bad thing.

The .38’s and 9mm’s are cheaper to shoot than .357 or .45 if that enters into it at all.

.45 Colt . Actually rather than a Uberti I would buy him one of the Ruger Flattop's in .44 Special or .45 Colt . It will cost more but is more versatile and stronger. If just scooting Cowboy Action one of the New Vaquero's would be my choice. Uberti's are good guns but they are not great guns as a rule and the several I own have been gutted and the parts replaced with ones made of better material.

Thanks everyone. He decided on the 45 long colt. Taylor’s open top army.

Well is he even old enough to be in possession of a handgun? Not being critical but these days makes a guy wonder about that, same with guys buying rifles for a young person then sticking a can on it. Just asking.mb

I happen to like the two cylinder guns especially when we're talking about someone who might not reload, or has limited funds. .45 Colt is very expensive and .45 ACP is much less. As for the 9mm cylinders, those are mostly just a convenience as 9mm is cheap and plentiful in comparison to .38 special/.357

I have an Uberti with the Taylors re-done trigger in .45. Much fun to load and shoot. As you've already decided on the open top, you're good.
He'll enjoy the heck out of that .45 Colt round.

You reload so ... ditto on the .45 Colt. Versatile for many uses.
