I bought myself a 1952 M70 in 270 for Christmas, it's in rough shape, not abused but very used. 50% of the stock finish was gone, had several spots on the barrel the bluing had rubbed through. Ancient Pachmayer pad , hard as a rock, sooo I stripped the stock, refinished with Tru Oil, re-cut the checkering, Red deccelerator pad, touched up the barrel bluing and glass bedded it. Not done yet, will post pic's when completed.

Sounds awesome buddy. I look forward to the pics. Good on you for sprucing that one up, and breathing new life into it. Some that have been messed with like that, need it, and are great candidates for this type of treatment. I like those kind of rifles.

Ha ha. I was thinking about you and your new beautiful rifle. You should share with the crowd.

Thanks big buddy BSA, i sent some pics to our old bud Pacecars, maybe he can post them in a bit.

Rifle came very near new in it's factory box wrapped in old oil paper, the bolt wear that's on it is from me working the action and holding the rifle for hours on end over several days, bolt face is still like glass, rifle is a 1951, barrel is a '49, Justin over at pre64win said that's plenty correct, plus, box, action and bolt all matching numbers, it's going to be a great fair weather hunting rifle and one that will go on next Safari for all manner of plains game.

I have to find Wife all four colors of springbuck and a copper colored Wilbebeest bull, Eland, Sable, Zebra, Kudu, Gemsbok, Impala and Warthog will also be on the menu, i'll use the 175gr Speer Grand Slam bullet at 2675 fps.

Thank you too Pal.

Thanks bud, this is going to be a fun one, even the part of milling off, filing, and cold bluing the face of that front scope base to just get the scope back far enough to clear the barrel sight, speaking of that old J Unertl Hawk 4X, Mike out at Ironsight told me he has seals and orings and can purge the scope if it fogs, i really hope it holds up, would love to leave it on the rifle and use it for all hunting.

HOLY SMOKES? A 7x57 in the BOX? I would give the left side of my manhood for a rifle like that. Nice score.

I didn’t get a rifle but ran across a neat little stock on gunbroker. The seller had two, this one and another in Claro walnut. The Claro sold for 110 I think and I paid 140 for this one. Should have bought both. He had them listed as semi inlets but to my surprise it was about 99% inletted , took me about 10 minutes to fit my rifle to it.

I finished it over a the weekend, need to nock down the shine a little and send it out for checkering.
