I finished it over a the weekend, need to nock down the shine a little and send it out for checkering.

That's a cool looking stock. Are you going to checker it?

Winchester 52 repro.

How it looked when I got it home:

Now how it looks with the scope I'm going to be testing its accuracy with later on today:

I may eventually put a smaller scope on it, but I wanted to use one of my good trusted and proven scopes on it. This Weaver V16 4-16x42 always works very well.

I've been wanting one of these sporters for a long time. It will keep my 1949 heavy barrel target model great company. Now you guys probably see why I couldn't leave that shop without buying the dang thing!!!!!

If mid December counts, picked this up off the fire. Youth ranger in a featherweight stock in 308. Neat rifle.

That’s a Rudolph the Winchester Ranger….right there!

Does the barrel have a boss?

I like that one. I remember seeing it in the classifieds here. Assuming it's the same one. Cool little rifle. Congrats!

Half of my dealing is done. I put a Model 70 Winchester Westerner in 7Rem Mag on layaway for 570.00. I will have to wait till Friday to spring that one and to put a Model 70 Alaskan in 375 HH on deck.

The irons sights just gives them that classic look. I like it too. One of the reasons I jumped on the model 52 I just bought. I also had an iron sight Ranger, that I bought for my wife, back in 1997. I loaded it way down, with 110gr speers and IMR4198 powder. She liked shooting it for a while, but she wasn't really into guns, or hunting. Yours looks slick in that XTR FWT stock.

Any thoughts/ advice on putting iron sights on ones without.

Are they all drilled for peeps?

Shouldn’t be a problem adding iron sights if you want them.

All are drilled for receiver sights

Sounds awesome buddy. I look forward to the pics. Good on you for sprucing that one up, and breathing new life into it. Some that have been messed with like that, need it, and are great candidates for this type of treatment. I like those kind of rifles.

Finished product, unfortunately I didn't take a before photo. It was rough though.

That's a shooting machine. At what range were those groups fired. They might have been smaller if the benches weren't shaking. smile
What's the story on those benches. Are they made out of 3/4" plate ?

Thanks guys. I bought this on the campfire classified from Medriver, maybe if Jud see's this and still has the original pic's in his files he will post it?
It came with an old Weaker K4 in weaver mounts. I think this was the original "truck gun" .
The gun was used and not maintained but it wasn't abused or bubba'd in anyway. It appeared the action had not been removed from the stock in 50+ years, the dirt/pineneedles poured out.
The bolt face was perfect and I put my bore scope down the bore expecting 70 yrs of copper and carbon and throat erosion. To my surprise it was pristine.
My initial plan was to re-bore to 9.3X62 but I think I will shoot it first. My bet is it will be super accurate and I cannot in good conscious re-bore it. We shall see.
The 270 is my favorite and I own 3 pre64's 270's and a custom Mauser in 270, so I don't need another, but need has nothing to do with it, right?
As for collectability, I am not a collector, I am a user, this one was definitely not a collector gun and I feel I improved it immensely.
