I didn't know that Craig Johnson had written that many Longmire books.

If Lord of the Rings isn't in the list, it should be.

Doubt I add to it, library access is.....difficult anymore. Might read Atlas Shrugged again, it's been awhile. A great read, can't be scared of the page count.

If we had an education system in this country now...it would have been a done deal.
That said, I would vehemently insist it should be 117 books. The novels of Patrick O'Brian must be included...they are in fact, a compilation or summary, of of every theme of the human condition contained in the first 100 list.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Back in high school, in the early 60's, I took a speed reading course. It turned out to be the most useful class I every took. They emphasized not only speed but comprehension and that's all important. I sailed through all the great novels. I liked thick books because they contained more. I judged a book by it's weight. After 50 years, I've forgotten most of them. I could comprehend them then but 50+ years has taken a toll.
For the record, War and Peace is a great read but to understand it, you have to get the right translation from Russian. Russians have a habit of giving a person a dozen different names depending on who he's talking to. It's very hard to figure out who is who. By luck, I got one of the easy ones. The translator picked one of a person's names and stuck with that one all the way through.

How many recent high school graduates , or even college grads have read many, if any of those works? Anything by jack London is a must read, even his short stories like "To Make A Fire". I didn't see "Animal Farm" in that list but it should also be included.

Good list, knocked out quite a few of them.
Republic by Plato is good but tedious.
I could make additional suggestions but it comes down to taste.

Several of the books I have long considered life changing. Catch 22 by Joseph Heller and scores of others from my late teens through my 30s. I will copy this post and...
