I posted this as sort of flippant considering the date & all, but mixed a fresh drink & listened to it in entirety for the first time with no distractions, in decades.
You should. I'm not a musician, just a long time listener. And this sun of a bitch is quality all the way through. Maybe I'm buzzed, but never thought the song this good in all these years. Every player, spot on. For 17 min. that's big.
I saw them in concert in Anchorage Alaska in 1975. They actually put on a good show. in my youth i had a set of drums and I could do that whole song. I joined the Army and my mom sold my drums.

Slapped the headphones on a long haired headbanger once and made him listen to the whole thing. He liked it but would never admit it. Blew his mind when I told him that it was ancient 60s music.
I could wish a lot of things on my worst enemy but neuropathy ain't one of them.

Mine not only sold my drums, she gave my Tonka toys away....
didn't that German drummer girl Sina? do a cover also...
Yes, she does on Youtube. She really does a wonderful job on that song. Take 18 minutes and go back to 1970. kwg

That is low. Real low. The drums I can get. My mother didn't like them. Too noisy. But, the Tonka trucks !!!

There's a lot of old music that sounds better to me now. I think it's because most of the new music sucks so bad. The Rap crap and the new top 40 makes anything sound better.
I remember when this album came out, had a great drive to it. I was in HS just knew I was going to get Drafted and "die in a rice field in viet-nam", no kidding! This song always reminds me of how it felt back then. Of course, by the time I graduated, I just volunteered for the Army to get it out of the way. Figured if I lived over it, at least I'd get the GI Bill to go to school. Sent to Germany instead, did not die in a rice field. Jammed on it all the way, any and every time we all partied. This was "B.C." "Before Christ" in my life, ha. The dope/booze, etc stopped then, all burned out, fried and empty (almost '74, married my girl, got in Church ) but who doesn't like good music?! lol I look back with more Victory in my Life when I hear it now...old memories, old friends dead and gone....but we're still here! Rock On!
The students in hs marching band talked about it (1968 or 69, I think) - asked if we could do it "on the field at halftime".
I was doubtful, but took the essentials of the recording, arranged it for the band, used it as an entry piece. Came onto the field from all 4 corners - started very quiet/faint with the tubas alone on the bass line. Added other insts to full volume and then the drum section - big finish in the center of the field. Less than 2 minutes, total. Big hit.
