No need, grew up in the woods, thousands of campfires, many a 22 and shotshells tossed in the fire, make for pretty colors and a cool sound, no damage to humans or the fire.

A large stash of primers contained in a steel ammo can might let off a small boom but doubt it would be very large or enough even to blow out a window, because by the time they would go off the windows would be long gone by then.

Uncontained, yes. Contained, it explodes.

Many years ago, as kids we would toss .22RF cartridges into burning piles of leaves we had raked-up. Every one exploded. Actually lifting the leaf piles up. Sounded like fire crackers.

So all you internet experts, next time you have a camp fire burning, throw some .22RF cartridges into it. See what happens. Hell, throw some 5.56 or 7.62 cartridges into the fire. See what happens. And keep sitting next to the burning fire. You don't get to run away. I dare you. Hell, I double dare you. You will find out "ignite" and "cook-off" are euphemisms for "explode".
How many house fires have you fought? Fire training? Haz Mat? I thought so. 2024 is the same as 2023 so far.

Why would you run away? Nothing happens. Bit of a pop as the case splits. Bullet lays there. powder burns off the rest of the way. No big deal.

Ask the OP, he's the one who added that language. It wasn't in the story.

It's the Headline of the story dumb chit.

If you had bothered to click on the link, you would know that.

Or if he had bothered with looking at your previous posts, he'd know your posts are information dumps and that you are incapable of generating content on your own.

That SAAMI video, if you'd read the facts behind it, it states that the ammo was soaked in diesel fuel first...

Every now and then, you'll hear something zing away from the fire when it pops. At least I have in my previous experiences.

"The remains of a woman and another person, whose gender has not yet been confirmed"

In the past, this would not have raised an eyebrow but now, I have to wonder if the corpse pitched a hissy fit because they guessed wrong.

I would question a lot of 3rd party's reporting on fires. Case in point A fire dept was called out to dispose of blasting sticks.

They looked, closed an area of abought 3 blocks square. Could not decide how to move it safely. A neighbor came home from work.

He identified the blasting sticks as Road flares. So much for experts saving the neighborhood.

[quote=SupFoo]3 homes burn, igniting cache of ammunition in Southern California city; remains of 2 people found among ashes

“I saw at least two, what appeared to be, automatic weapons — a rifle, ammunition lined up,” Scott told KTLA-TV. “That obviously concerns us — why is that out?”

Interesting line there. “What appeared to be automatic weapons”.
Must have been some of those evil looking black rifles.

Didn’t say I lived in the woods, I grew up being in the woods.
