If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

SHOT Show 2024 is just a few weeks away. Are you expecting there would be some pre-SHOT announcements here?
Spoiler alert, not likely; All you would get here are rumors from people who do not know.
However, this would be a good place to list your wishes, just as was done in the OP.
I will be at SHOT, and I will try to post here during that week.

I want a scope with a locking elevation knob w/zero stop, capped windage, 3-12x44 to about 3-15x50 or so, with mrad knobs, and a FFP reticle that is usable throughout the power range. Illuminated reticle and alpha glass are a bonus. I want it to weigh no more than 24 oz. If a company made this, I'd buy a couple.
ETA: It needs to track, hold zero, and be able to take a drop.

The Maven RS1.2 is not new for this year, but the FFP/mil variants are a fairly recent addition. I'm still awaiting mine so can't speak about it in use. On paper, the FFP reticle looks to be one of the better hunter centric designs extant.

Lol I’ll take a 1lb 1-6x32 in 1” with a battery free illum dot, a zero lock elevation turret with 1/3 moa clicks, capped low profile windage in regular 1/4 moa, German number 4 with fine middle/dot, green and red. Also needs to take a drop, rtz and track. Oh and big fov, great eyebox (thin outer line and easy to get in and stay in) and the scope needs to be trim and smooth everywhere, no jagged tactical theme turrets and throw levers and eyeboxes.
Could also offer same reticle with some hunter hold hashes and ditch the dial turret for low pro capped, 1/4 moa on it, and sfp is fine.
That would give the hunters dial or reticle solutions. You could technically build all that into one scope and I’d be ok with that too.
Hunting combined with general purpose and defence (also covers Africa dangerous game and everything there too) is a 0-600 game for 99%.
So better offer it in matte and gloss finishes so it can ride on AR’s and nice mausers and everything in between.
Build more options for this as the public becomes more aware of reality and scope functions and build quality.
Less ffp mil horsesh1t please, the wannabes have more than enough crap to choose from lol

I would be pleased if Leupold could a reliability, and zero retention project on its vx3 and vx5 scopes I would be pretty happy. The scopes meet most of my needs are far as size, weight optical performance go. I just don't trust them enough to take on a expensive out of state hunt. Well while they are changing things a little reticle updating would be nice.

If we're making this a wish thread, a lightweight 40mm objective, illuminated reticle, capped windage/elevation fixed 4x with great glass. Would be great hunting in the woods. The Trijicon 1-4x I'm using on my 45/70 doesn't suck, but I'd like a bigger objective for morning and evening.

Best part of this time of year is Doug's SHOT show report. He gives honest opinions of the companies, new products, and the company representatives. And, you get to hear of his ice cream treat of the day after a long day of talking and walking.

Im still hoping for a really good 1" compact hunting scope with excellent glass that has solid adjustments AND dont weigh and pound and a half like all these 30mm Hubble telescopes that have flooded the market...Why spend the money for a great lightweight rifle then mount a scope on it that weighs more than the rifle? ....Hb

How's the 1" Tract 2-10x t-plex in low light? I just got a 1" Tract Toric 2-10 a couple of days ago, BDC reticle rather than T-plex but same scope. Yesterday evening as it was getting dark I tried it out behind the house looking into a shaded area at what, for me, is a typical end of daylight deer shooting distance. Just for the sake of comparison, I tried three other scopes at the same time. In my non-scientific test, the Tract was noticeably better than the other three and gave me enough enhanced detail to take a shot. It was slightly, but noticeably better than a Leupold VX III 3.5 - 10 X 40 that has given me excellent low light performance in the past. It was significantly better than a Nikon Monarch UCC 3.3-10 X 44 and a Burris FFII 3-9 X 40. All scopes were set at 6X for the "test." So far I'm pleased with apparent optical quality etc. Hopefully I'm getting to the range Thursday to see how it actually works.

Tracts also address one of the most-mentioned shortcomings scopes have; the eye-relief is pretty generous, and stays very nearly the same throughout the power range. Don’t know how many scopes I’ll be buying in the future, and I love my Trijicons, but if I do, Tract will get a hard look for something suitable for my purpose.

Athlon announced a reduction in price on their Riflescopes. We think that was a great decision as they understand what's going on with the economy and are tightening their belts to help out their customers.

Unsure if the 'optics' are moved through there.

Actually Athlon is the exception, and in this case they can be called exceptional, as we have gotten price increases from many other brands.

I still see nothing new that will be a improvement over what ive used for the last 20 years. 14 bushnell elites and they were all bought used either here or ebay. Never sent one back or had any problems with them. I dont think i will need a new scope in my lifetime.

I still see nothing new that will be a improvement over what ive used for the last 20 years. This is pretty much how I feel. There really have been no real improvements that I've seen over the scopes that I've been using for the last 15-20 years and many of the current offerings have gotten worse. Thermal optics excluded.

For the past years regarding hunting optics, it seem like all focus is on zoom and fov. 6 an 8x zoom, big oculars and objectives. Resulting in heavy, bulky scopes at a high cost. At least when looking at the european brands (I am from Norway). I presume the group of hunters prefering light rifles is quite big, why not also put som emphasis on neat, light scopes?
Here at home when someone is inn for a really lightweigt scope, they end up buying used scopes which is 10-20 years old. Simply because these optics are not produced anymore. Old Swaros and Zeiss 3-9x36, 2.5-10x42 is sold within minutes when they occure for sale (Swaro Z3 is discontinued inn Europe). Same with older, really light Leuopolds, they are gone within the blink of an eye.

Not sure on availability in your area, but the Maven 2-10 might be a good fit for what you describe. Likewise with the Sightron SI series of scopes. I've found both to be optically better than some of the older scopes you describe, and, IME, they are likely more rugged than some of the scopes you have listed.

Wouldn't be afraid to give other models in the line up a try if they fit the application. Glass is good and adjustments are right on.

I still see nothing new that will be a improvement over what ive used for the last 20 years. 14 bushnell elites and they were all bought used either here or ebay. Never sent one back or had any problems with them. I dont think i will need a new scope in my lifetime. That's because your needs have not changed in the last 20 years. This is the Hunting Optics forum and hunting has not changed in forever, for the vast majority of hunters. Yeah, some people shoot at game at longer distances than before, but that is a small minority of hunters. I read here all the time about peope wanting to have a 1inch tube with a 3-9X zoom and under 36mm objective weighing less than 16oz. Oh, and less than $200, please. On the other hand competitive shooting has expanded and riflescopes are being designed and manufactured to meet their needs. I am now using a riflescope in 1000yard competition that is the end result of the latest innovations, and that's where riflescope manufacturers have been spending their research resources.

Some of those tract toric scopes seem a lot like some of the old weaver super slam scopes. Both are made in Japan and seem to be the same size and weight. Maybe it's just an oem model from LOW. Those old super slams were good scopes for the money.

All good points. I realized a while back that the rifles, optics, and for the most part, chamberings I use for big game hunting is what I arrived at 30+ years ago. There really hasn’t been any sea change kind of improvement without unacceptable trade offs (for me, at least) since.
