Mark Dice used to do lots of videos where he'd stand on a high traffic sidewalk and offer people a choice between a chocolate bar and a one ounce gold coin, and they'd always go for the chocolate bar, stating things like, "That's a Canadian coin, so I can't spend it here in the US," or "I have no need for any gold, but I like chocolate."

It wasn't because they thought it was fake, either, because he would do this in sight of a coin shop, and offer to walk over with them to verify it was real. He never had any takers.

I went to the pawn shop today, and the owner had three Royal Canadian Mint one ounce gold bars and one American one ounce Gold Eagle in the glass display case with the jewelry. I was holding the Eagle when another customer comes over and asks if that's gold. I said yes, one ounce. He asked how much, and the owner told him "Twenty-Forty-Five." The guy asked "Twenty dollars and forty-five cents?" The owner and I had a good laugh. He was serious.

I would visit a coin shop near my house in Vegas when I was 12. The guy behind the counter handed me a 1 Oz gold bar and "said pretty neat, huh?" At the time I just remarked that it seemed heavy.

I hated Vegas. Except the coin shop was cool.

I thought he offered either a Hershey bar or a 10oz silver bar?
Love the AU/AG thing. I've got a little. These days, makes me wish I'd starting collecting 40 years ago! 🤑

Got some 1/10 oz gold Canadian Maple Leafs. Bought them all for less than $150 back in '14 or '15 (?).
Crazy things are now nearly $300/ea!
I can remember the wife and me talking about not buying silver coins until the price dropped below $15! Now it's nearly $30/oz!

Um, no, he didn't offer an ounce of gold or a candy bar to a large number of people and get everyone to take the candy bar.

Just like reality TV isn't real.

I bought a bunch of the 1/10 oz Eagles when they were under $100.00 each.

Gold is just suuuuch a great investment.

BUY GOLD NOW!!!
It increased xx% in the last 3 years.

Hilarious.
Everybody buys it when it's crazy high.

Such a dependable cycle.
Do the gold hawkers offer to buy it back when it drops...the economy is good?
To sell it back to the same EOTWAWKI fools on the top of the next cycle?

I dont think you re missing much .. Gold does not create wealth . It stores it. Though it fluctuates , and it goes up an down in price. I have bought gold through stock shares 2 yrs. ago and made 3% in a year when the market lost 19% in 2022, then sold it. Go back 1000 yrs. and gold including inflation is about the sane price. As for gold keeping value in disasterous times? Sure, but if I had a LOT of money , I would buy land ... I have 3 properties and have done much better than gold. I even bought $2,000 in Gladstone Land Company. LAND is the ticker. It's farm land with 116,000 ac. of farm land , owns barns and processing plants.
