I bought a box of 7X57 ammo to use as a baseline for some reloading I'm going to do.

There were several reasons i chose this, price and bullet weight mostly, but I should have looked at the bullets themselves - might take them back and get the 140's instead, assuming "traditional" shape on those, which I assumed these would have. I've never seen anything like this!

Or not, depending on what you guys say- it's a 50 mile round trip for paper punchers. Talk to me about the "ogive" on these....what's the purpose, etc.

Edit

OK - I googled it. Interesting. Looks fine for my purpose- just kinda spooked me. The 140's are not CE....

Anyone use these on game?

The SPCE stands for soft point cutting edge. Like a wadcutter.
The euros have been using that style of SP for a long time. My experience with the150gr 30 caliber version from S&B says it’s a good bullet, accurate enough and good on game performance.

That's weird but I'd be absolutely shocked if you were able to return ammo.

Per S&B tho - it's a cutting edge, used to lock the jacket and core together while also punching clean holes for blood trails. Think rifle wadcutters.

I'd use that ammo, just out of curiosity.

You're right on returns- hadn't crossed my mind. Heck- I might even use these hunting sometime, depending. Poor man's factory Partition.... about $30/box. smile

On the other hand, I have 50 ea of NP that came with the rifle. 120, 140? 175?. 100 ea 150 and 160 BTSP Sierra

Might need to buy more powder..... smile

Ive used their 8x57JS. With the 196 grn SPCE. Deadly on big hogs. And accurate. One of my fav factory loads in my Husqvarna 640. Matter of fact, it’s loaded with them as I write this

interesting. Cutting edge? Cool if it works.

At first, until I read the other posts, I thought it was some weird dual diameter bullet like in this month's Handloader article on some 9x72 round and rifle.

Go out an shoot something with them and tell us how they work. Pics too!

On the 6.5 X 55 CE's there are just 4 vertical lines, no wad cutter hump. Suppose to assist in opening up/ peeling back

S&B is (was?) good ammo

A buddy and I have used that ammo on deer & hogs with excellent success. I vaguely recall them clocking under 2,300 fps when I sent them across the chrony screens. Accordingly, we find 2 holes in every carcass: high sexual density @ moderate velocities will do that.

If you wanna shoot at long range, just lob ‘em in there like artillery shells.😎

I've always liked the idea of mortor rounds. Especially on flocks of sitting geese. smile

Elmer would call for 81 mm over 60.
