Anyone have actual weights of the Hunter stock, in Standard fill, and then Edge fill?
I’ve owned 3, trying to find my notes,
My first from years ago weighs 39oz, I’ve often suspected they used mag fill on that one,
Next one needs to be lighter, thinking Edge, but looking for actual numbers before ordering.

The last one I bought was mid to low 30’s. I even added in the notes that I would like the fill as light as possible. Now this was a gel coat/swirly stock not EDGE fill.
I did email them about an edge fill for a Howa mini. I want to say that they told me 26-28 ounces. Even though that pattern is one of my favorites I went another route. 28 ounces might be too much for the little rifle and I had my doubts that it would make 28 ounces anyway.

Remington hunter is a different pattern with a much beefier fore end. I had one with a hart 5 contour barrel in it and it was still too thick
McMillan and Sako hunter patterns are more svelte forward of the action
My experience with McMillan is that there can be a lot of variation in stock weight from stock to stock even with the same fill so any examples you get here are just guesses

Yes, The Remington Hunter will accept up to a #8 contour,
The McMillan Hunter left hand will accept up to a #4 contour.

I have a McMillan hunter molded in color for a long action bdl with sporter fill and it weighs 29oz. And the edge would be even lighter than your 29, Has I mentioned, when mine was made years ago, I thought it seemed heavy, but that rifle at 8.75lbs is a joy to shoot. I’m not sure if I’ll go edge or sporter fill on this next one,,,,,, Actually, yours is molded in color, that adds additional weight.

Nsewell has a sporter fill with molded in color and weighs 29oz
Riflehunter has edge fill and paint @27oz,
2 very similar stocks,
2 different fill weights, but only 2 oz difference?
Does not compute.

As soon as I get a chance I’ll take the rifle apart and weigh it again. It’s been a while.

Mine has an extra-short Sako action cut-out...perhaps adds half an ounce to mine. 27oz includes the 1/2 inch Pachmeyer and 2 sling swivels. My Howa-mini Pemberton Composite Stock is exactly 18.5 oz. My McMillan Edge with Remington 700 SA cut-out is exactly 23.5 oz. All weights include recoil pad and sling swivels, all are painted, all 13.5" LOP. I'm not sure what rifle and barrel weight you are getting it for, but you need to be very careful, as too heavy a stock or too light will stuff-up the balance and handling.
A McMillan Supergrade Model 70 with magnum fill in LA cut-out was a few ounces heavier than the wooden stock and weighed around 41-43oz, whereas the Bell & Carson with Aluminum bedding block for the same rifle is 30.55 oz.

I weighed my stock again and it is 31oz. I originally said it weighed 29 but it is bedded now and I don’t know how much,if any that adds. The order sheet says sporter fill. 14” lop, 1” decelerator pad. 2 sling studs. Weighed on a Lyman electronic trigger pull gauge.

I also have a Darrell Holland stock(made by McMillan )that’s very similar to the McMillan hunter that weighs 40oz. Unsure of the fill, I bought it used. Short action, bdl, 14” lop, molded in color.

Does not compute. Don’t know if that’s the case here, but as shortmagfan mentioned there seems to be a fair amount of variation with McM’s. My EDGE Classic for L/A M700 ADL weighs 25+ ozs painted, full length action bedded and that’s with a lightweight flip-flop recoil pad (~1.5 ozs for the pad). Bought the unfinished stock 15 years ago and was expecting to be lighter.

Not being married to any particular political party sure makes it a lot easier to look at the world more objectively... Having said that, MAGA.

To my original comment (3rd post of the thread) - I’ve got 2 identical mcmillan stocks
Everything about them is the same except a minor difference in inletting for the barrel cylinder.
Both are edge fill, inlet for model seven action, same LOP, same recoil pad, same paint (different colors).
The stocks weigh about 6 ounces different between the two.
The only meaningful difference I can find is that one was ordered 10-12 years ago and the other was ordered 4-5 years ago (before McM changed hands)
So the idea of predicting the weight is a fools errand because there is a lot of stock to stock variation

Is the heavier stock the more recent order? I’ll guess the heavier is the older stock……….

Is the heavier stock the more recent order? Yes Thanks. What I figured as well. As AKwolverine mentioned, Mcmillan added some extra weight along the way. I suppose that happens to most of us! haha

You’d have thought if anything they’d get lighter with better epoxies and materials.

I have looked at and even called to order(the person I needed to speak with was out) the Alamo precision stock made by AG. It looks a lot like the Macmillan/Sako hunter. Beaver10 speaks highly of them. The last couple of times I have ended up going with something else but that stock is for sure worth looking at if nothing else.

Kaleb, lemme know what you find out - I've been eyeballing the same.
