No comparison whatsoever, John Wayne's version was BY FAR superior.
It's like when a song, for example, "Knocking on Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan, is redone by another artist, their rendition, is never as good.
A masterpiece is a masterpiece, and the other copies are cheap imitations of the original. Agreed except the point about Bob Dylan. He flat it sucks as a singer. As GrandDad used to say, “he couldn’t carry a tune in a paper bag” He was an OK songwriter. 😜 ' He is Pavarotti compared to Axl Rose- Knockin on heavans dow a war . Friggin Ethel Merman of rock. LOL. That ain’t saying much. 😜 Can’t stand Axle Rose either.

I prefer the original. There were some things I like from the second. Jeff Bridges is no John Wayne. He wasn't trying to be John Wayne. Good thing too, John Wayne played John Wayne in every western movie he ever did. Same character, different dialog.

Seen the JW version as few times as it's been around so long. Watchet the new version once.
Hope I can go the rest of my years without either one of them again.
