We use Flavacol and "Theatre" Coconut oil to make popcorn.

Flavacol: The Secret Ingredient in Movie Theater Popcorn

If you’ve ever been on a quest to reproduce the taste of perfect movie theater popcorn, you’ve probably stumbled upon Flavacol while researching the required ingredients. (And if you are still looking for the ultimate movie theater popcorn recipe.
Used primarily by movie theaters, this popcorn seasoning is still mostly unknown by the public, and is usually sold in bulk for use in commercial-sized popcorn makers. But you can buy your own carton of this “secret ingredient” from us at CornPopper.ca!

What is Flavacol?

Flavacol is a butter flavored seasoning salt manufactured by Gold Medal of Cincinnati, Ohio, made of extra-fine salt flakes. The original Flavacol contains only four ingredients: salt, yellow #5 and #6 (to give popcorn a butter-yellow tinge), and artificial butter flavor. Meanwhile, the Better Buttery version of the product contains an artificial sweetener in addition to these ingredients.
The salt flakes in Flavacol are produced using a method called the Alberger process, which creates pyramid-shaped salt crystals. Because these flakes have a greater surface area than the traditional cube-shaped salt crystals, they stick to popcorn better, and result in an even coverage.

How to Use Flavacol

When using Flavacol to make popcorn at home, you will find that a small amount goes a long way. Half a teaspoon added directly to your Whirley Pop stovetop popper or electric popcorn popper before popping is all it takes to give your entire popcorn batch that famous salty and buttery taste. We always recommend popping popcorn in oil, like our Real Theater Popping Oil, for maximum flavor. If you have a hot-air popper, don’t despair, you can also sprinkle Flavacol onto your freshly made batch.
A 35 oz (2.1lbs) carton of Flavacol will typically last a very long time. If using a Whirley Pop popcorn popper, you can make over 250 batches of popcorn with one carton! Many popcorn lovers have noticed they use less butter on their popcorn when using Flavacol, because the popcorn already has a pleasant buttery taste. Hence, Flavacol can, if used sparingly, contribute to preparing a healthier batch of popcorn.

I eat popcorn at least once, and usually twice a week. Love the stuff. I use a Victorio stovettop popper with the crank to stir it while it pops. Three tablespoons of oil, a little over a half cup of popcorn, and some flavored popcorn salt, and I'm good to go. My wife makes a few batches of popcorn at Christmas, which a mixture of pecans, cashews, and a caramel like mixture that's baked in the oven to make it crispy. Good eating.

Standard paper lunch bag, 1/4 to 1/3 cup popping corn depending on variety, three staples across thin fold at top to seal. Pop on high until most kernels stop popping. 2min give or take in mine.

Gonna take a few test runs to get it down without bursting, burning or starting a fire.😂🤣😂

Salted Butter melted with favorite hot sauce.

I heat the butter first as it heats up glass turn table and improves popping.

Better paper bag = better performance

YMMV.

Too small a profile.

Been making it this way since the 90's.

Heavy Dutch oven over med heat

2-3 tbsp avocado oil, put in 2-3 kernels and when these go pop, add a heaping 1/2 cup of kernels.

Take off heat when you can count a 2 or 3 Mississippi between pops.

Melt butter and use lots of salt.

Perfect every time.

The dog will be drooling next to the stove. He always gets a few "drops."

I use a enameled cast iron dutch. I use coconut oil to pop but then use real butter and sea salt on the popped corn. If
Im feeling kinky or dangerous I sprinkle on some grated parmesan cheese after the butter but before the salt. I can shove it in my mouth fast enough to suit me.
