Has it been discontinued?

I think Hodgdon kept the Winchester 760 branding and dropped the H 414. Same powder. F01

During one of the supply crunches I was in a Cabelas in PA on my way back from JFK. About the only powder they had was a bunch of H414 on an end cap display. Guess the Amish use something else…..
What fresh Hell is this?

I never minded the afterburn residue, it cleaned easily enough but I did find the accuracy and higher velocities across a number of cartridges very pleasing.
A couple of years back, literally days or weeks before price and availability became a topic. I saw an 8lb jug of 760.in a local store for $170. Had a half dozen single pound bottles on the shelf so ummed and aared several times over several visits and then, it was gone.

Man that was some dirty powder! Curious as to what you were using it in.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

I use it in my 243AI with 70gr bullets. Got 11 lbs or so left.

I was at one of our gun stores yesterday and I THINK I remember seeing some H-414 on the shelf.

While the powder residue of 414/760 may not bother some handloaders, I haven't used any in years--except for testing in articles.
Ramshot Big Game has a similar burn-rate, is much cleaner burning, less temp-sensitive--and these days far more available. Just looked at three websites and found it on two. The Ramshot site lists it at 219.99 for an 8-pounder.

I always thought it was great powder. I bought some military surplus for 7 bucks a pound 23? yrs. ago and still have some today. Works well in my .270 that I dont use anymore , and my .243 Win. . Used it many times in a 22-250 also and had great results.

I have a couple 8lb jugs of it and W760, seems to be one of those powders with little demand...all of mine were picked up pretty cheaply.

I liked H414 and used it in the 300 WSM and 7x57 along with a couple of others but don't recall calibers off hand. I did buy 4lbs of W760 as a substitute but haven't tried any yet.

Messy on clean up but doesn't seem to affect accuracy. I have some Ramshot Big Game on hand & will try it in my AR10 reloads over H-414, as JB notes the Ramshot line of powders is a relative bargain in today's market. 41

H414 and 760 are twins that I always found a noticeable amount of difference between - probably just lots, but more difference than say, MRP and RL22.

I Haven't seen Big Game available for a little while and it's been even longer since I have seen Hunter available anywhere.

I'm not being argumentative here, I really want to know....what's with these reports of dirty burning H414? I basically use the bulk of it in 7x57 and .30-06, admittedly loaded stoutly and ignited with WLRs...but I just haven't seen excess fouling. As a matter of fact the 7x57 has a frosty bore, and 414 gives same low copper fouling as CFE 223. I have used a lot of it, about 2/3 the way through an old keg. A local rancher buys a pound from me every year for his .220 Swift...swears by it, and I use it in a lot of less popular applications, full power loads in the .30-40 and .303 Brit. You wouldn't think the military would have accepted it if it was that bad...I still have some linked M25 red tip .30-06 mg loaded with what looks, smells, tastes like 414.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

My experience was in a 270 Winchester with 130 grain bullets knowing me I was running it just under maximum book load. Probably using a standard primer, it was quite noticeably dirtier than IMR 4831 or 4350. Just wanted to try a ball powder so I could throw charges with my powder measure with confidence 41
