At Quality Cartridge https://www.qual-cart.com/products.htmThe pdf catalog is linked and lists .375 Hawk-Scovill 20 count #861487 $76.50 By good ol' Peter Cardona if he is still in business, I sure hope so. You can also find the .395 Tatanka and .500 Mbogo there. Heh heh heh.

The 9.3 case can be improved as well. Geeze, I dunno what could be improved on the 9.3x62. All of them have a long, tapering throat, almost always allowing really any bullet to be loaded to out to full magazine length. We're talking 70-71 grains of ball powder under a 300 grain swift a-frame. Only way this could be improved upon, would be 9.3x66 in something like a remington based standard action. You'd then be setting around 75 grains, with heavies loaded out to a longer magazine. Interesting that the 9.3x62mm has a leade only throat of 0.3681" base diameter and 0*21'29" leade hemi-angle. For the .458 Winchester Magnum those measures are 0.4689" base diameter and 0*29'30" leade hemi-angle. Zero parallel-sided free-bore for both. Numbers are from CIP for both. Both punch above there weight class. The travel of slug from maximum brass case length to full engraving at bore diameter: The 9.3x62mm: 1.1140" The .458 WinMag: 1.1284" That is according to converting the CIP millimeters to inches. Proportional to bullet diameter, the 9.3x62mm has a longer throat than the .458 WinMag. I sure do like that 9.3x62mm. Got two of them, a CZ 550 Medium FS and a Ruger M77 Hawkeye African. Both are extremely accurate. If I did a .375 Hawk-Scovill, I would get it throated like this: Leade-only. Base diameter 0.3771". Leade hemi-angle 0*29'30".

I'd have to agree with mainer: It's pretty hard to improve on the standard 9.3 x 62 in that length case as a mid-bore. Using RL-17 I'm getting 200 fps faster shooting the 286gr NP than I could from Rl-15. And well over 2400 fps from the 320gr Woodleigh PP from RL-17. And all that from a 22.44" barrel. And having used that powder in the 9.3 x 62 for over a dozen years, I've found it much more stable in temp fluctations than RL-15. Bob www.bigbores.ca

It makes me a bit "concerned" going to some of these non-Western countries such as African countries with incorrect headstamps. Part of the benefit of having a medium bore or bigger is taking it on hunts to these sorts of places. Otherwise, you're just restricting yourself to North America and maybe one or two other places. It's for Alaska. I took a 458 Lott to Africa. They never looked at the ammo The improvements would be in case taper.

It's for Alaska. I took a 458 Lott to Africa. They never looked at the ammo The improvements would be in case taper. I was there a few months ago. They looked at the headstamps and counted the rounds on entry and on leaving. I got charged for the rounds used. It's not an improvement in terms of feeding to a dangerous game cartridge having less taper resulting in a wider shoulder. Having said that, it would seem that the .375 Scovill is a very good design. In a 22 inch barrel you should be able to get 2300 fps with 300's using temperature stable powders. In the 9.3 x 62, you should be able to get that same velocity with the 286gn projectile which has the same sectional density as the .375 300gn bullet in a 22" barrel with temperature stable powders. Perhaps the marginally bigger diameter and heavier .375 bullet gives a marginal advantage on game, with marginally more recoil. But the .375 will require a lot more case preparation, the .375 Scovill cases At Quality Cartridge would need to be ordered with perhaps a very long wait, rifle is a custom build, custom dies, reamer...the 9.3 is the easy way. Maybe in your situation it would be best to go with the .375 Scovill, otherwise, you never end up with what you really wanted.

I used the 375 Scovill rifle that Dave gave me for a number of years and wrote a couple articles on it. I did learn that the design was an old one called the 9.5x62 in Europe and a staple wildcat at numerous gunsmithing schools. It’s primary advantage over the 9.3 is bullet selection here in the US. It’s .009” bullet diameter (the depth of rifling) and 15 grains of bullet weight are not significant.

Biggest advantage is that i have and can get 375 barrels but 9.3s are a different story. I ordered a 9.3 and got a 375. I have another 9.3 on order so i his I'll make one of each. Reamer for 375 is ordered, already have the 9.3 reamer

Flipping through the Barnes reloading manuals noted that both the .338 Scovill and .375 Scovill have blurbs written by Dave Scovill and reloading data for the TSX bullets and Banded Solids for both chamberings. "Loading dies are available from Huntington and RCBS" said Dave.

I chambered my PacNor barrel in 9.3x62, i tried 286 and 250 grain bullets. I couldn't get enough velocity increase to justify the 250s.
I killed a very large brown bear last week with the 9.3x62 using 286 grain bullets @ 2400 fps. It was certainty adequate.

Great to hear, congratulations ! Posting pics at the 24hrCF photo gallery is really easy if you follow instructions Rick has posted all over the forums, and if your internet connection is as good as the average caveman's, like mine, even I can do it. If there are technical issues, PM someone like me to email images to him for posting here. Get them hosted in the free gallery here and you can post them to any thread you like.
