Have a nib Ruger M77 stainless in the zytel stock in 308. Scope it and hunt it or sell it and buy something else. Have the rings and a compact Leupold 2-7 ready to go on. Have many other option in the safes to pick from.

If you like the gun and want to hunt it go for it. If you think you would like something better then sell it. You might be shocked what a NIB M77 All-Weather brings on GunBroker.

Much as I like M77/Hawkeyes, a NIB Zytel would likely be turned into something else. Just economics. After all it may not shoot all that well, and having had one like it, I recall that narrow butt “improves” the recoil.
What fresh Hell is this?

I’d maybe sell just the stock and then throw a cheap Hogue on it or take the money and buy a nice stock and a Timney trigger.

I sent my 260 back to Ruger and had them mount a brown laminate. I like it much better now.

I’d just sell the stock and use the money for a new stock.

It might bring some ridiculous money new with the box. You could put it on gunbroker with a high starting price and maybe get enough out of it to buy a nicer rifle. I know where there's a new proof elevation 20" carbon barreled 308 marked down to $2380.
I'd sell the ruger and pick up that proof or a waypoint if I wanted to stay 308. Or just get something in whatever clambering you want. That ruger should bring enough to get a custom action and a shouldered prefit barrel with maybe some change towards a stock.
I sometimes wonder why I keep my old boat paddle stainless 7 mag. It's nice but if it were new with the box I'd put it on gunbroker. I like my old stainless laminate 7 wsm m77 better than my boat paddle 7 mag. Although if I find a boat paddle short action stock I'll probably put it on my 7 wsm. I like the 22" barrel on the wsm.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I had one in 22-250 that was an excellent shooter..shot some pd's and coyotes with it and 3 antelope in 1 day all 1 and done . It had a factory short 22" barrel very loud it was slow twist.but handled ww 64 gr power pt bullets really well and 63 grn sierras. Sold it for 3 times what I paid for it. Still have 1 in 223 and 308 both good shooters. I see them as ultimate bad weather use outfits..mb

Is it a true CRF or one of the early transition models?

Can someone please tell me why the boat paddle is in demand? I think they are ugly as hell.

I have a friend that guided elk for years with one in 7 mag. He has lots of stories about it including rolling his horse over it and he swears there is no more durable or reliable rifle.
He always had an older Japanese made Tasco world class on it and it held up too. I've watched him shoot several elk with it using just ww 150g pp factory ammo. I chonied that factory ammo for him and it was a consistent 3150 fps and grouped well. Not much for a BC but he wasn't looking to shoot past 500 anyways.
I found a nice clean one in 7 mag several years ago and picked it up. I've never shot it but hang onto it just in case something ever happens to my friends rifle. He will be heart broke and then I'll hand him mine. You know you've got gun nuttiness bad when you're picking up spare rifles in case a friend needs it one day.

I'm not saying they are bad rifles. I have one in 300 winmag that I picked up about a dozen years ago and never shot.
I just think that stock is butt ass ugly.
