For the most part, yes. From what I've seen and the folks I've talked to out here, ag repair is what is needed. Mobile welding is few and far between out here, and what is common is having to drag equipment to a shop to repair. Once again ( in case you missed it) think construction, there is 50 x the construction equipment vs farm equipment. Farmers are alot more frugal / self sufficient than contractors. Is that right? I believe it is

Depending on the season...farmers don't do "at my leisure" too well.
That's really interesting that there are so few people doing their own repairs over there.

I shouldn't blanket say "ag only", what I really mean is small operators who don't have the skill to do the right repair, or don't want to drag it to a shop to let it sit for a week or two in their yard until it can be repaired. Construction obviously would pay more, but I don't want to be a steel erector. I just want to do equipment repair, and from what I have researched, there is a market for that out here. Part time, not immediately on call, and at my leisure. I'm talking bucket repairs (huge market !) not structual ! Trailers, truck beds, equipment repairs, etc.... Take home or do onsite.

I misunderstood your post. Yeah, that work would be included, as I choose.

We couldn't keep welder busy 40 hrs. a week. 15- 20yes. Would be silly to hire or keep a full time welder in the shop. I had 2 on speed dial..... Locations may very, but in my AO, mobile welders do very well.

Tell the farmers you will hardface ground engagement tools. You gonna pay someone to do your hard facing ? No, of course not. I will, because the time it takes to burn facing rods on my paver, I can have my mechanic get 2-3 pieces back on the job. Again....farmers are more frugal ( read = resourceful, not cheap) than commercial builders. Hence the need for mobile welders. HERE. I hired more mobile welders than mobile mechanics.

Whatever you do....don't work for loggers. I dunno Jim...my preferred customers, even when I was working for Cat and Komatsu and IH Dressler dealers who had a tendency to pad the bill just like a hospital and 10 dollar aspirin, they never took it out on the field mechanic, and in 25 years sole proprietorship, I was never stiffed on a billing. Now you want to talk about gold miners...yeah. The biggest bunch of fly by nights ever.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.
