Just picked this up from a member here on the fire. Nice early 870 ADL in 16 gauge, 28" modified with the early matte barrel

I am not overly enamored with 870's but these early ones really speak to me. Wish I had yours and you had a better one.

I have an 870 16ga I bought in '76. I have all three choked barrels for it.

Having all 3 barrels is nice. I've picked up other 16 gauge barrels but it seems most of the 870s in 16 I find are all modified choke

That is an early one with that checkering. Nice condition too. I have an early (first year) 870 in 12 ga and its the slickest best shooting gun I own.

Congrats! I have a six digit 870 in 16ga as well, not the deluxe model like yours, but I did find a Modified VR barrel for it back in the 80's which really turned it into a shooter.

Its like the 870s from this century aren't even the same gun...what a difference and what a shame.

Nice Buy..... Those early 50's guns in that ADL configuration are all great guns......The Remington Pump aficionados refer to those as having "the 7 diamond checkering pattern" referring to the layout of the forend checkering.
My deadliest years as a bird shooter were my 20'and early 30's with 12 and 20 ga versions of the gun you snagged. Fit and finish were very nice and they slicked up really quick with use.

Even with a selection of fine guns , including examples of English and Italian "BEST" doubles, I still put in a couple of dove and quail shooting days with one or more of my 3 1950-52 20 gauges...... helps bring me back down to earth and reminds of my "raising" ..... They are wonderful pieces of Americana fieldcraft art, showing great form and function. Enjoy yours.......

They've definitely went downhill over the years. I've got a bunch from different periods but the early ones will always be my favorite

Thank you. Definitely goes back to a simpler time. And you're right the more you use them the slicker they get

The 870s will always be my favorite as well, I do have a soft spot for model 12s but the early 870s are tough to beat

Yes. I've seen them mentioned as ADL and ADL deluxe. Older literature I've seen always adds the deluxe at the end .

I really like how the they did the top of the barrel on that vintage/model! Very nice shotgun! Remington went 20 years without making a 16ga. I believe from 1980 to 2000 no 16 gauges where made in either the 870 or 1100.

I walk around like I'm ok, but deep down inside, I wanna buy another gun.

Yeah that's a nice addition. I've got a 12 like it too. Sounds about right on the 16s I know all mine in 870 and 1100 are older pre 80 guns
