My S&W 3913 frame just recently started wearing a 4” Bar-Sto barrel in a 3906/5906 slide:

The extra half inch makes it noticeably different. Looks and feels like it belongs this way. I’m thinking it’ll be a permanent change. Shooting will tell.

That barrel and slide performed well, when they were on the 5906 frame:

The 5906 frame is now wearing a 3904 slide, which I hope to have Black Nitride treated by the end of this month.

Ooof target is from 4 1/2 yrs ago and you just now decide to start a post on your conversion. I guess better late than never.

I have a 5906 and I can't see monkeying with swapping slides.
What's the point ?

Give that some thought, and I’m sure the answer will occur to you.

You can ask Glock fans about the G49, they will explain rationale behind Golck Perfection concept.

Writing a clear and concise post is also a skill worth developing.

The end result is lighter carry gun because 3913 has light alloy frame while frame of 5906 is made of stainless steel. This mutant and G19 have nearly identical weight. The G19 is gold standard when it comes to modern CCW.

Went and switched, yet again:

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]Just can’t help it. It’s too easy. The stainless slide and Bar-Sto barrel went back on the 5906.

I picked up a 1972 39-2 two weeks ago, mint condition, shamefully cheap; I just couldn't help myself. Always liked the 39 series, but I didn't care for the 59's until the Gen 3's. This 39 shoots very well, and it just fits brilliantly in my hand. I'll smooth up the DA a bit and she'll be good to go. I don't see me really carrying it, just a range toy. I was in the market for a "cool" 9mm just for range time, so why not go vintage?

I found that 3rd generation S&W guts (trigger, hammer and drawbar) are a drop-in fit in 1st and 2nd generation pistols, for instant trigger improvement. I once even installed Model 3904 guts and safety in a Model 52, resulting in an intriguing SA/DA .38SPL WC auto pistol, which made for a great companion to my K-38 revolver and was much fun to shoot.

This 645 (with 3rd Gen guts and “other alterations”) is the only 2nd Gen S&W I have, anymore:

The Black Nitride treatment of the 3904 slide, safety and extractor (pictured above) is being completed today at the Jacksonville FL facility of H&M Metal Processing. I should have it back on my 3913 frame tomorrow.

I carried 3rd generation S&W autos for years. 4506 and 6906 carried the most often. That’s a cool pistol, but I still like modern Glock, Sig, and Springfield pistols these days.

The stretched S&W Model 3913, reassembled with the now Black Nitride treated slide and safety:

No more worn and moth-eaten edges, it’s black as midnight, harder than chrome and more rust resistant, too.

The thing is, those photos really don’t do it justice. It looks even better in person. I’m thoroughly tickled over the results.

If I still had my 3913NL I would get it done just like that.

As it was before:

And, as it is now:

Just a bit front heavy when empty, but not when loaded.

Still got the original 3-1/2” top end, for when (if) I wanna switch back.

I installed the spur hammer so that a shoulder holster thumb snap retention strap would have something to hold onto. The one sided safety/decocker eliminates unnecessary width.

No, the aluminum alloy frame remains just as it came from S&W, except that I dissolved away the silly red dot from the right side because there’s no longer a right side safety/decocker lever.
