I have a minty (probably 95% plus) 1972 Model 64A 30-30 that I considering selling as part of my "thin the herd" drive.

I am the second owner; it does have a Lyman receiver sight that I added in 2004.

I have no idea of its value, a local Winchester collector that I shoot with has offered $1500.00.

Is that a fair price?

Thanks

IMO $1,500 for a used 64A would be a killer price for the seller and about twice what 64A and the very similar 94 NRA commemorative rifles are selling for on GB.

You should sell it to him before the offer of $1,500 expires!

260Remguy,

Thanks for your insight on this. In looking at GB and Guns International I don't see many Model 64A's out there, one in much poorer condition starting at $999 with no bids and one sold last year on GI in similar condition to mine that sold for $1400.

As this is someone I know, I'm not looking to take advantage of his offer if it's more than I anticipated.

Again, thanks for your feedback.

I have been looking for a Model 64 for about two months now. They are out there but most are not being sold. The everyday hunting guns seem to be more plentiful but there are some really nice collecotr grade stuff as well. Give it a try, but don't be shocked when you get substantially lower offers. The 64A doesn't seem to be as popular or carry the value of the originals. The 64A was one of the 70's guns that seems to suffer from the receiver alloy issue and resulting finish flaking.
GB #1042137132 is the gun I beleive was being referenced above. It was just relisted, again.

Do any M64’s or 64A’s worth owning sell for less than $1,000?

This is what I was thinking, I have seen several not worth owning that were still $1,000. I have been searching for the right model 64 for awhile it will come around one of these days.

I bought a minty 94 NRA rifle, same configuration as the 64A, recently for $725 delivered.

Remember that the GB numbers are asking prices, not necessarily selling prices.

Unless you save an ad it is hard to say how many times a gun has been relisted following auction end without a bid. Still best to review closed (sold) auctions. But only GB has that feature as far as I know.
A LGS has a 1941 Deluxe on consignment for $1250. Thin blueing on receiver and muzzle and the checkering is really worn. He has had it for 3 years. I offered $1100 out the door but he isn't interested. He didn't even ask the owner.
I say ask what you want and you can decide how badly you want to sell.
Markets fluctuate. Marlins (JM) were bringing crazy money. Now the Rugers are out and the quality is really good so Main prices seem to be dipping.
