What is the best way to remove the bolt shroud to begin disassembly?
I've done a post-war bolt with three position safety, but never a pre-war with the two position flag safety.

Thanks.

The safety on this bolt only stopped/engaged in the fire and safe positions. After you corrected me, I found that middle detent and disassembled the same as the others.
With the shroud separated from the bolt, firing pin & spring, the safety now engages in all three positions.

That leads me to the next question.
What is the best way to depress the plunger & spring that engage the safety so that it can be removed? Does the safety have to be in a certain position to execute removal?

Thanks again.

Shouldn’t matter. After pin is removed holding safety you should be able pull the safety out

Thanks for the guidance so far. I put on the optivisor, used a bit of profanity and got it sorted out.

After removing the safety I see why the middle position doesn't positively engage.
The safety detent plunger has worn down the "ridge" of metal between the fire & middle position detents.

Attempted using a Tilden safety but it turns very stiffly & the plunger will not positively engage each detent. The plunger is wearing the same ridge down as on the original flag safety & it will not pass a function check when reassembled. Reinstalled the flag safety and it functions as designed.

I've read the Tilden was designed to be a "drop-in" replacement. For those who've installed them, do some require fitting to make them function correctly?
