The house we lived in until I was nine had multiple leaks in the roof, we used to think it was great fun to get out the pots and pans to catch the leaks when it rained. Also had an old hardwood floor that was rough as a cob. I had four older brothers, we'd run down the hall in our socks and see how far we could slide. Wasn't unusual to get a splinter in your foot, about as big around as your little finger. We did walk to school, and it was one mile each way.


I'm pretty sure we had indoor plumbing though.
