several years ago I was with a group of guys out shooting prairie dogs. One guy brought some tannerite. He put about #1 in a box, placed it on top of a p-dog mound, put a piece of 1/2" X 12" X 24" aluminum on top of the box and then put an empty pony keg on top of the aluminum. Shot it.
We all were standing about 150 yards away, which was almost not far enough. Blew a 3' deep hole in the ground, launched the empty keg a good 100 yards high and when we found the aluminum plate, it was curved on one side and had the indention of the bottom of the keg on the other side.
Was impressive.
Laws aren't preventative measures. In other words, more laws won't prevent gun crime from happening.
We HAD a target frame at our hunting club that consisted of two, vertical 4 X 4s and about 6’ of 1/4” particle board between them to mount the targets. One of the guys taped a can with a pound or so of Tannerite on the back of the plywood and the a target on the front. This was the first day of the season and another guy showed up and needed to check his rifle. When he shot there was the expected explosion and the shooter looked up from the bench with a WTF? look and the only thing left standing in the target area was the 4 X 4’s. 😊
Now that's funny.
We're not allowed to use tannerite at our ranges. I'd expect they would do a careful review of the CCTV footage if this happened.
Pricks around here blew up an old TV with the crap at a municipal shooting range and left a mess. Yep, the town closed our shooting range down for that and a loss for the rest of us.
Mornin, good use for blowing up beaver dams that are flooding roads etc. Easier than using fertilizer & diesel fuel. Don't need to find blasting caps. You used to be able to get them at the hardwear store if you were a farmer & you had to sign for them. On another note, we have two quarries nearby & there still not sure who stole the explosives but about a week later someone stuffed (to much) into the TD bank machine!!! Money & envelopes all over the street. I don't think even the guy that did it got a dime out of it. To scared & ran away. When they re-built it was built inside so they could lock it at night. Big talk in the small town of Coldwater. WPGGUY. 🐾👣🇨🇦
Please elaborate on how to blow a beaver dam with it. We have one on our farm that needs to go!
Bought the ingredients in bulk several times- - - -"prilled" ammonium nitrate fertilizer (BB sizes spheres) and "blackhead" atomized aluminum powder. 1 tablespoon of blackhead to a pound of AN. Much less expensive than the brand name stuff. 5 pounds will make a 2 foot tall fire ant mound disappear in a cloud of dust!
Tannerite has, on a weight basis, about half the strength of dynamite. It’s no bullsheit. A lb of it is roughly equivalent to a stick of dynamite. Don’t tempt Darwin with stupidity.
Trigger, 1 bag of fertilizer (high ammonia content) place on or under if ya can. Soak fertilizer with diesel fuel. We always used a blasting cap & triggered it with the battery on the little ferguson, loooonnng wires. It would probably be better to just use tannerite, easier to get & just as effective. Good luck, let us know how ya make out. GWPGUY. 🐾👣🇨🇦
One time when i was a logger kid we encountered a massive old growth redwood stump that had slid down on an old road we needed to open up. I am saying the trunk was 10 feet in diameter and 8 feet high. and the root wad underneath was as big around as two 1/2 ton short bed pickups parked side to side. It was too much for our 2 d7 cats to push into the gulch. Fast forward to a man sized rabbit hole shovel dug under the base of the rootwad. Add 4 50# bags of fertilizer soaked in diesel. One blasting cap and alot of wire. then the hole back filled. We never did see where that stump went! somewhere down into the heavily wooded gulch. It was a massive thump when it went off but we were all around the corner of the hillside when we touched it off.
I am told that one can drill tops out of 1 gal coleman propane cans, fill them 1/3 full and then screw on a steel cap from hardware store. paint them white and set at long distance for targets. And then get a piece of shrapnel in your eye.
I was with a coworker shooting on his property when he drug out an old dishwasher that he said the trash people kept leaving behind. They wouldn't take it for whatever reason so he stuck 3lbs of tannerite inside and closed the door. He marked the dirt on the door with his finger, forming an X so he knew where to aim. We were posted up about 150 yards away when he touched it off with his AR. Shrapnel everywhere with a helluva BOOM. We can't prove it was from the explosion but his son came out of the house right after and said the TV and internet went down. Fuggin thing was like an emp 😅
