The robins around here have been establishing their territory's for a few weeks now. Every morning (if not snowing) I'm greeted by one in my backyard ash tree.

A few blue birds and finches showing up, that's a good sign that spring is around the corner

We had a Meadowlark hanging around the feedyard last January.
It will be a week or two before the Robins hit town.
The seagulls arrived late last week right before the storm. Ihope they froze their asses off!

meadowlarks have been coming back for last two weeks, the real indicator for spring is the arrival of our favorite, the vermillion flycatcher, pretty little sounofagun.

All sorts of flying critters have been returning. Turkey vultures maybe a week back, Actually had an American White Pelican on the local reservoir the other day. Haven't seen a bluebird around the house yet, expect them soon as I've seen some around town and such. No tree or violet green swallows yet either. Snow geese still coming north from wherever though. Good size flock came over, really high as this pic was at 4.5x on the phone cam and they still look far away. Must have been a few hundred, didn't even get the whole flock in

The next week or so we should get our first cattle egrets. I write it down every year when the first ones show up. The earliest ever was March 25 and the latest was April 7. They only eat live bait so they don't go for cold weather.

If some of the seeds I have planted as an experiment work out, I'll send you some juniper seedlings. 30 years or so, when they get a good berry crop, maybe the robins will hang around all winter like they do here. And you too can have juniper berry schiedt all over everthing in the yard.

Robbins showed up here about a week ago. The red winged black birds are going nuts here with their mating calls, a beautiful sound. !

On my lake in my backyard last weekend on the North 40, lots more coming now, but it isn't really spring until I see the first Robin. There is water on top of the ice today, thank God!

Heard the first upland sandpiper last weekend. Saw my first scissortail flycatcher too. The first local barn swallow showed up this week tho I saw them maybe ten days back on coastal Alabama (I 10).
Purple martin “scouts”, always the first, showed up early February.
About two weeks from now the big springtime flood of migrant warblers, thrushes, orioles, tanagers etc etc headed to point north will commence crossing the Gulf in huge numbers.
